Many of my clients pay me in cash. I need to create an invoice but mark it as paid straight away then send a receipt. It will seem rude if I send invoices to people who have already paid me. In Wave I could skip sending, mark as paid and then send a receipt. I'm frustrated that I can't do this in Quickbooks.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Hello AT with Kathy,
Currently, there isn't a way for us to skip the sending process of the invoice. I can send a product suggestion to our engineers on your behalf regarding this option.
Please read this handy article for more information. Just scroll down under the "Invoicing" section: Getting started.
You might also want to visit our page for future reference: Taxes and Year End.
You can always swing by anytime if you need help with anything else.
If I can't skip sending an invoice then can I send a receipt without creating an invoice?
And can you let me know how quickly the developers might be able to add this function because until this problem is sorted I simply don't know what to do.
I can't be the only self-employed person who gets paid in cash, or by bank transfer without me generating an invoice. It's very normal for a complimentary health practitioner to get paid in cash at the end of a session.
Hey AT with Kathy,
We would be unable to provide a time-frame if this feature were to be implemented - currently the only way to send a receipt in the QuickBooks Self-Employed would be to send the invoice and mark as paid.
As a workaround, you could send the invoice to a personal address which would then allow you to mark as paid, though I appreciate this is not an ideal solution.
Thanks
Thanks for that idea, although as you say it's not a great solution. I'll have to put in my own email address to send the invoice and then put the real one back in to send a receipt. Very pointless.
I'm very disappointed in Quickbooks. Wave - which was free for me to use - had this feature so it didn't occur to me that Quickbooks - which I'm having to pay for - wouldn't.
The problem with your solution is that now I can't send a receipt as it doesn't then allow me to change the email address.
Hey AT with Kathy,
We appreciate your feedback and agree this would be a valuable feature for self-employed users.
If you are using a browser you can edit the recipients email address when sending the receipt to enter the customers address.
Thanks
I just tried your work around, but then saw that if I send the invoice to myself it has my email address on it. That doesn't look very professional.
This is really rubbish. I expected more from Quickbooks.
Also I just did change the recipient but it sent to me and not to my client.
Hi AT with Kathy
It is not possible to send a receipt and then mark as paid, as previously stated we advise you that you leave feedback.
Is there a more effective forum to leave my feedback than here?
I would like some evidence that Quickbooks is interested in these problems and going to take action to resolve them. I chose Quickbooks because of affordability, but I got much better functionality in Wave. As Wave isn't going to really continue in the UK I'm guessing you will get more clients like me who need to move from Wave and who are looking for the most affordable HMRC compliant programme that also connects to UK bank accounts. Surely it's in your interest to listen to us?
But I can't sit around and wait for the developers to move in 6 or 8 months. I need this to work for me now or make the decision to change to a different programme.
Kathy
I appreciate you for voicing out, @AT with Kathy.
We enhance the programme and services we offer by constant customer feedback and ideas. We truly value your suggestion on how best to improve the services we provide. Your idea helps our Product Development team decide which feature will be implemented in the next future update.
You can visit this website to send your idea: What features should we work on? Additionally, you can visit and check our Blog site. It posts product enhancement and accounting advice written by business bloggers and QuickBooks Team.
Let me know if there's anything else I can do or you have other proposals. I'd be here to provide more help and share them on your behalf.
I completely agree with you Kathy ! I’ve just joined up. I was mid sold over the phone however. Not impressed. I asked if I could back date but because of this problem (which still doesn’t look to be updated) I now can’t do this! I can’t send clients old invoices that they have already paid !
