P45 for employment using Quickbooks Self Employed version

Thanks for taking the time to post here in the Community, @MDavies237. I can see how important it is to provide a P45 to your new employer in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE). I'm here to share some insights.

You can view the details in your Tax Profile in QBSE using the following steps:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Self-Employed.
  2. Then, navigate to the Gear icon.
  3. Select Tax Profile.

You can ask for this information from your previous employer. Another option is to reach out to HMRC.

To get more details about the process, visit this article: QuickBooks Self-Employed UK Tax Profile Set Up. Setting up your Tax Profile makes the calculation of your self-employment taxes easier.

In addition, managing your taxes in QBSE is a snap. You can refer to the attached article for guidance: Year-end Taxes. This comprises the most frequently asked questions about year-end tax filing.

I'm only a post away if you need additional assistance with this. I'd be more than happy to work with you to ensure everything is all set. Take care!

Hi @MDavies237

You won't have a P45 (that's only for PAYE employees leaving).

Explain to the new employer that you have been self-employed.  They may ask you to fill in a Starter Checklist https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/paye-starter-checklist

Depending on your circumstances, they will probably start you on an emergency tax code (1257L wk1/m1) - if this needs amending, HMRC will let them know within a week or two.

If you intend to keep the self-employment going alongside the PAYE job then you will need to keep the usual records & complete self-assessment as well.

Hope this helps.
