QuickBooks Migration from QB Desktop QB Online Post 30 June 2023

Dear QuickBooks

We have now migrated two years of our accounts to QBO. This process has been a nightmare because of the limitations of QBO compared to QBD and has taken us several months of work.  But that is another post for another day.

The question I have for today is as follows:-

  • We have tested accessing our historic data in the read own portal.  This has masses of limitations mainly because you can only export data to a CSV file.
  • If we try using the portal to access our data from over two years ago and find the limitations too time consuming, can we then decide to export seven years to a second QBO file, post 30 June 2023?  Or does this need to be done this month?

Hello, RachelIllsley.

I understand your frustration entirely, and It's crucial to keep accurate records in the system. QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop are completely different platforms. Although you can export your 7-year data, due to limitations, some information may be missing depending on the size of your company file.

For additional information about importing data from QBDT to QBO, please refer to this article: Learn about converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

I've also attached an article discussing what to expect when converting files from QBDT to QBO: Switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online when you know what data doesn't convert when you migrate from QBDT to QBO.

Moreover, you can check out this article: QuickBooks Desktop is being discontinued. It will also help you move your data to QuickBooks Online or download your data to move out of QBDT.

Feel me in if you need additional help. I'll be here to help you out. Have a great day!

Ailene

I don't think you understood my email.  We have already migrated one file f, so I don't need the information or links.

What I need to know is whether I can I migrate a second file, post the discontinuation date of 30 June 2023? Or if this needs doing before then?

Hello Rachelllsley, So you would need to move the second file over before the 30th of June this year before it is discontinued as MMB needs QBDT to be open in order to migrate it across.

So if we miss that deadline we can never migrate the additional data?!  That seems crazy!

We are currently paying for our QBD subscription, our QBO Advance subscription and now have to pay a massive sum to migrate and access our historic data, with a shot gun against our head?  Unable to try the other system for a few months to see how we can get on?

I thought the situation couldn't get any worse!  But I was wrong.  You poor things working for such an incompetent organisation!  I am LIVID!  I am so glad I asked the question.

I don't know about MMB, but I believe third party providers can still convert your data from QB Desktop to QB Online or other accounting programs after June 2023. I can say that referring to what happened with QB Desktop Australian version,  QB Desktop Singapore version, and QB Desktop South Africa version.

If you do not migrate over before the 30th June you will not be able to. You will only have the export data tool to use just to view historical data in desktop. We are sorry to hear you feel this way about the whole thing but it is our of our hands and as a desktop user after the 30th of June you will not be able to use it any more.

Why should the "whole thing be out of our hands".  It is your product therefore if one has paid their sub it is your responsibility. I have been a customer of Intuit for 30 years (from Quicken back in the day) and I really expect a better more responsible service
I admit to being behind and have not migrated in time - I have been ill - but now trying to do that. I have signed up AND PAID for QBO but trying to migrate is a nightmare. Some of your web links are out of date stating that you can still upload your QB DT files however you can't open them now (though interestingly I could on 4 July -ie after your deadline)  I am quite happy to migrate the old files to QBO and more than one (2 only in total) but you should offer better support and not say "whole thing be out of our hands".

thank you
