SINGLE USER MODE ISSUES

My QB Premier 2021 program keeps shutting down every time I try to switch to single user mode.  I can get into multi-user mode with no problem.  My files are hosted on a different computer (server) and we can access files with no problem - but just in multi-user mode.   This has happened after an update from QB that happened last night.   Please help.

Are you saying that this problem occurs with all your company files?

Try opening the sample file. Did you encounter the same problem?

SINGLE USER MODE ISSUES

We hear and recognize your concern, Liz19238. I'm here to help you rectify your desktop program from shutting down when switching to a single-user mode.

When working with QuickBooks tasks, unusual behaviors like this may happen and can cause inconvenience to your day-to-day transactions. Thus, we can open and run QuickBooks with all windows closed in your file. This will allow the program to run smoothly, as QuickBooks will re-open any windows left open when closing the company file. Here's how to open your data with all the windows closed:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. In No Company Open, select your company file.
  3. Press and hold ALT on your keyboard and then select Open. Don’t let go of ALT until the file opens. If QuickBooks asks you to sign in, release ALT and enter your password. Press and hold ALT again and select OK.

If the same thing happens, we may consider opening your company file with a different QuickBooks user. To do this:

  1. Go to Company, select Set Up Users and Passwords, and select Set Up Users.
  2. Enterprise users: Go to the Company menu and select Users. Then, click Set Up Users and Roles.
  3. Select Add User..., type the username and password, and select Next.
  4. Note: Don't use the damaged user name.
  5. Customize the user as necessary and click Finish.
  6. Go to File, then select Close Company/Logoff.
  7. Sign in to the company file using the new login credential.

However, if the issue persists, you can follow Solutions 3-6 outlined in this article to ensure you'll able to work with your file seamlessly: Troubleshoot Unrecoverable Error XXXXX XXXXX.

Moreover, you may want to refer to this guide to help you install your desktop program again to fix company file issues: Reinstall QuickBooks Desktop.
