QuickBooks Desktop Pro is being Discontinued - Confirmation of ongoing use of software?

I purchased QBDT some years ago and am currently running 2021 Pro.  Will I be able to continue to use the software (albeit without upgrades or support) after 30th June?  I am in the UK.

@HHHLTD

You are running QB Desktop 2021 UK version with the subscription license, correct?

You can still use Quickbooks Desktop after 30 June - here's how.

1. Disable Quickbooks Automatic Updates. Go to Task Manager and disable everything to do with Quickbooks - you don't need them if they are not supporting!

2. Restart your computer but do not open Quickbooks Desktop ... yet or any other applications.

3. Change the date on your system.. Click on the clock / date at the bottom right of your screen and go to Date and time settings. Untick "Set the time automatically" and change the date and time to 30 June 2023.

4. Open Quickbooks desktop and open a company file. It should open no problem.

5. Change the date on your system back.. Click on the clock / date at the bottom right of your screen and go to Date and time settings. Untick "Set the time automatically" so the time reverts to the actual time so you can use other applications.

You should be able to use Quickbooks desktop as normal. Bear in mind that Quickbooks will still think the date and time is how you set them earlier - but you can still enter transactions for any date - even into July and forwards.

Let me know how you get on!

QuickBooks Desktop Pro is being Discontinued - Confirmation of ongoing use of software?

Hi,

I have done what you have suggested in your post that worked well but I have an issue since 7th April 2024 Qbook has removed connection link to HMRC to Submit VAT as they have told HMRC that their Desktop Version is non compliant when it was compliant before June 2023.

I had to use bridging softwre to submit my VAT by exporting my VAT 100 into excel and then upload to bridging software to submit my last quarter as I was already late for few days.

My issue is now how to mark my last VAT quarter as submitted as there is no option to switch off MTD in Qbook Desktop 2020 version would you have any solution to this issue. I have been using Qbook Desktop fro 25 years and online version has many missing features which were available in desktop for many years I dont understand why would they do this to their loyal customers leaving them hung dry.

I will be greateful if you have solution to above problem. my contact details are [email address removed]

Thanks for joining this thread, @waqarysheikh, and providing additional information about your VAT concern.

You can start by updating QuickBooks Desktop to keep the software up-to-date and have the latest features and fixes.

Here's how:

  1. Close your company files and QuickBooks.
  2. Open the Windows Start menu.
  3. Search for QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. Right-click the icon and select Run as administrator.
  5. While on the No Company Open screen, go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  6. Go to the Options tab. Select Mark All and then select Save.
  7. Go to the Update Now tab and select the Reset Update checkbox.
  8. When you're ready, select Get Updates.

QuickBooks Desktop Pro is being Discontinued - Confirmation of ongoing use of software?

Hi,

We are based in UK and as you know Qbook Desktop has been discontinued and from 7th April 2024 Intuit have now also removed Connection to HMRC to stop us Submitting VAT via MTD as non compliance software. But until June 2023 it was compliance to submit VAT via MTD I don't understand what has changed you just want us to move to QBO to a sub standard system and pay lot of money for it.

Install the trial version of QB Desktop 2021. Did you encounter the same problem?

First of all - make sure you ignore the advice to update your software … since this is now unsupported and supposedly discontinued - I would not trust intuit one iota not to completely break the workaround using system date …

second - I had the same issue and used Anna money to bridge my return .

To reconcile VAT in QB - I used the option in the file VAT to make a return under the £85,000 threshold , just ignore the warnings and there might have been an option to do a paper return … or similar.
I can’t remember exactly

Anyway - worked fine !

It's unfortunate that you feel pressured to use QuickBooks Online, @waqarysheikhThis is not the type of experience we want for you.

QuickBooks has introduced some changes to guarantee the secure storage of digital records and facilitate the direct filing of VAT returns with HMRC.

Moreover, I'll share the following articles that provide more information about setting up MTD for VAT in QBO and connecting to HMRC, as well as a guide for reconciling an account.

You can always post here again if you have other QuickBooks-related concerns. Drop the details below if you have questions about your tax payment. I'm here to help.

QuickBooks Desktop Pro is being Discontinued - Confirmation of ongoing use of software?

What, exactly, does that mean? I opened my software this morning and got a warning that it would stop working very soon. I have no need of the VAT filing stuff and don't want/need support. There is also the small matter of keeping at least 6 years of tax records for HMRC. Last month we were without internet access for 2 weeks - how does one run a business in that situation if cloud accounting software is required?

Hello Flyingfemme, thanks for reaching out about Desktop Pro being discontinued. Did you buy the QuickBooks product outright or were you paying a subscription? If you were subscribed, then yes, the product was discontinued last year. Some users who were subscribed have been able to use the product still despite this. That access should not have been possible still. Access for those users and the ability to support MTD is no longer going to work. If you bought an old version of QuickBooks outright you will be able to use it.

To clarify users who outright own the Desktop version they are on will still be able to use but not submit any MTD returns. HMRC will not accept returns from Desktop for any users.

QuickBooks Desktop Pro is being Discontinued - Confirmation of ongoing use of software?

Hi Emma,

I have QB Desktop 2016 and I bought it outright - never paid a subscription. I don't need to use MTD compliant software because we have a VAT group and don't report to HMRC (Isle of Man company).

If I will still be able to use it why did I get a message telling me it would cease this month?

Hello Flyingfemme, thanks for your reply.

This is the situation. If you bought a licence for QuickBooks Desktop through a one-off payment, whether it was directly from Intuit or through a retail outlet like Staples or Curry's, you'll still have access to your account after June 30, 2023.

However, starting from April 7, 2024, you won't be able to submit MTD reports to HMRC. As stated in this article.
