I run a small business in the UK. I received a notification that the online accounts and company tax return service is closing on 31 March 2026, and I must find an alternative method for filing once it has. Companies House is transitioning towards filing accounts by software only, as detailed here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/the-online-accounts-and-company-tax-return-service-is-closing I see that QuickBooks and Intuit are not included on the list of providers for unaudited micro-entity accounts, although I note competitors like Xero, FreeAgent and Sage are. https://www.gov.uk/software-company-accounts/y/unaudited/micro-entity Will you support filing unaudited micro-entity accounts with Companies House in the UK after the online accounts and tax return service closes on 31 March 2026?
QuickBooks Online (QBO) has not yet been listed as a recognized software provider for submitting unaudited micro-entity accounts directly to Companies House post-March 2026, @alastair3.Let me provide more insights about it.
As of now, QuickBooks is committed to providing our customers with seamless accounting solutions, and we are actively working on alternative options to support your needs for filing accounts post-service closure. I suggest consulting with an accountant who can assist you in ensuring that your filings remain compliant or using another third-party provider who can manage to file on your behalf.
If you don’t have an accountant yet, I’d love to help you find a great one. Feel free to visit this page: Find a Pro-Advisor.
Additionally, to keep your VAT information in QuickBooks current, here's how to manually record your VAT payment or refund so that your VAT payable balance is zero.

@Anonymous thank you for your reply. My accountant suggested I pose the question here.

This will mean us migrating off QuickBooks—a sizeable headache for us, and the loss of a customer for you.

I do hope this comes to fruition in time for the service closure next year.
I can't quite believe what I have just read.
Are QB just abandoning the 100's of thousands small businesses ?
I'd suggest this is a very short sighted policy
So we've all got to move from Quickbooks to Xero or FreeAgent?
This sounds like a fairly appalling situation.
I am in a similar situation. I am a retired accountant and have a business making and selling items from my hobby for charity. The most I have made in a year is £2,250, which is donated to a charitable cause; most years I operate at a loss. It is a hobby.
I simply can't afford what some of the accounting software companies are charging.
I am old school, I am retired. I am computer literate and have used Excel for several years.
I aim to carry on using excel and transfer everything to a software to submit. I have another year's return before I have to change, Sept 2024 - Aug 2025.
I am familiar with QuickBooks so if I have to use something I would prefer to use this, but, what is the likelihood of Quickbooks supporting filing of unaudited micro entity accounts by March 2027?
It is daunting going through the list and seeing fees of hundreds of £'s if not thousands. Maybe it would be easier to pack it in.
Quickbooks - this is not 'Solved' (which is what you have marked this query)
I have just checked the list again, as I have been monitoring this for myself and our companies. You are still not on the list (1st September 2025), with only 6 months to go until HMRC online filing is closed.
If you are unable to give a clear timeline of your plans, then we (12 small companies in total) and many thousands of small businesses like us will have to migrate their accounts to Xero. Surely you understand that we cannot afford to wait until March 2026 to do this as there is a lot of work involved.
What are your plans, Quickbooks? I will have to advise my clients of a plan by the end of this month, in order to allow myself to get to grips with potential new software and successfully migrate all these accounts to a new accounting platform before the deadline.
I’ve now rejected the post as the solution to this problem.
