Cash flow graph doesn't account for balances that have been imported manually. How can I use the cash flow section when my bank balances are £0 but QB balances accurate?

I have two bank accounts that I cannot link, so I have manually uploaded the transactions. Doing so adjusts the 'Quickbooks Balance', which are now accurate for both accounts. However, the 'Bank Balance' figure for each is £0 and I can't see anyway to change this. It seems that the cash flow section only factors in the bank balances, which means the cash flow section is far from accurate, because it is not factoring in the two balances I have that I have been manually uploading.

Hi danfordgsy-gmail, thanks for joining us here on the Community :)

The cash flow chart uses historical data from connected bank and debit card accounts to forecast future flows and doesn't include any transactions manually entered or uploaded to accounts without a live connection. The 'bank balance' pulls directly from a live connection and so it wouldn't be possible to change this - are the two accounts not currently supported in QB, or have you been unable to connect these due to errors when connecting? 🧐

Hi @GeorgiaC, thank you kindly for your informative response. Sadly, it wasn't what I had hoped though, as I'd really like to use the cash flow planner to see a graphical representation of my total balance over the last few months, and also, to plan my income and outgoings over the coming months.

Unfortunately I can't connect my bank accounts to QB as they are not supported, as far as I can tell. They are HSBC accounts and it seems HSBC UK is supported, but, as a Guernsey resident my HSBC accounts are provided by HSBC CIIOM (https://ciiom.hsbc.com) which does not appear to be supported.

Any additional advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Hey there, danfordgsy-gmail.

Since you're adding an account (HSBC CIIOM) that's not supported by the program, you can submit a request to add your account to the list of supporting banks, QuickBooks and your financial institution will work closely to provide a seamless connection. Here's how:

  1. Click Banking in the left panel or Transactions menu.
  2. Select Add account.
  3. Search for the name of your financial institution. If QuickBooks is unable to find your bank, you will get the message, "Hmm, we can’t find [name of the bank you entered] in our list of supported banks," and you will be presented with helpful tips to try and locate your bank account.
  4. If you’re still unable to find your bank, select Request support for your bank.
  5. Enter your bank's web address (URL) in the field provided, then select Request.

In the meantime, you can use the WebConnect feature in QuickBooks Online to import your transactions. You can refer to this article for the detailed steps: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Once imported, I recommend editing, assigning, and categorising your transactions. Also, you can match them to the existing entries in the software. Just go to the For Review tab from the Banking menu. Doing so will help you ensure the accuracy of your financial records.

I'm only a post away if you have any questions or anything else you need in QuickBooks. I'll be glad to share and provide further assistance whenever you need one. Have a wonderful day!

I've been waiting 7 years for QB to connect to Virgin money with a sort code starting 08.  So feeding back i wouldn't hold your breath.  This is shocking in this day and age.  Also the bank should be able to be overridden for cashflow purposes as it is useless to many business owners which is not fully includive.

I have also been feeding back for 9 years to sort out the bank matching to see credit notes and also to be able to off set Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger, which is a no brainer....but they would rather mess with a payroll system that was fit for purpose and replace with something that is inadequate to do simple tasks and email a payslip!!!!
