Hello Glennhoile-hotma,
Welcome to the Community page,
In QuickBooks it doesn’t go off the tax year it follows the first date of the month you have on the settings. Main cog wheel> account and settings> advanced> accounting> first month of financial year.

Is there anyway to change it to the official tax year dates... its nightmare for the tax return is it not?
Hello glenhoile-hotma, so you can set the first month of the financial year to whatever month you want it to be by clicking on the box and then click the drop down arrow select the month you want and then save. For the first month of tax you can have this set as either January or the same as financial year again by clicking on the box drop down arrow select the option and save.
