When I post a journal to record an expense, the Name field does not show up in transaction reports (however I produce them). It only shows the supplier name for expense transactions.
Example report attached.
How can I get a full transaction report for a nominal account with the Name field populated for all transaction types?
Hello Rjwbailey,
Welcome to the Community page,
So Journal posts over multiple lines and can have a name per line that has a different name on each line.
Whereas an expense only has one name box and it applies to the whole transaction.
Unless you run a report on a specific account on that journal with a name attached it won't show it.
You could try putting the same name in all the lines if the journal is just for one supplier, however it still may not show.
Even if you populate each journal line with a name it doesn't show the name. So what is the point of the Name field in a journal if we can't report on it?!
It's something that QB Desktop handled without any problem. If you had multiple lines on a journal, you just got multiple lines on the report. See attached example. I don't understand what is so difficult about getting basic usable and customisable reports out of QBO?
We have taken this on board and will pass it on to our developers team.
Please get this fixed!
Thank you - this is still annoying me this day! You can see names in transaction reports for all transactions except journals...
Will this ever be repaired?
There is absolutely no point of having a Name field in journals if we can't report against it! What is the point of even entering it? :)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about running a report that includes journal entries @Haitham Al-Sulaiman.
The option to include the names in the journal entry you've recorded in your reports is currently unavailable. The option to include the name in any reports that you generate will surely be a great addition to the current features that we have, so I'll take note of it.
I also encourage you to leave feedback from within the product. Here are the steps:
You can check out this article for more information about providing feedback to make the program better: How do I submit feedback?.
In the meantime, you can check the following article on how to use the Advanced Search function in QuickBooks to see all your journal entries including the names: Print a journal entry report.
Here's more information on how to customise reports to choose which rows and columns appear, and select which customers, distribution accounts, suppliers, accounts, and products appear on the report: Customise reports in QuickBooks Online.
I'm always here if you need more help when running your reports. Let me know in the reply section below. Have a great rest of the day!
