Hi woodford,
The journal entries are automatically created and named by the system, the name will follow in sequential order from the last generated journal on the system.
The only way to rename this would be to open the journal and edit the journal no. field. Once you have ran the payroll, the journals created are easily accessible by selecting the search icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
Thanks
I have edited each entry to change the name, but this is tedious, is there not a way to stop it automatically incrementing?
Thanks for getting back to me woodford.
There is no way to stop this incrementing, all transactions in QuickBooks require a transaction reference number. The next time you run the payroll the JE created should follow on from the last journal name/number combination saved.
So any journal entry I make, for example when I pay my employees pension I would enter something like (pension week 49) , now payroll picks up that last heading and increments the number so if I pay 15 people then the last ref. is "pension week 64" this is really confusing. So if I go into each journal entry after it has been posted and change the title to something simple like "weekly pay" will that cause problems later on?
how are other people dealing with this?
Hello @woodford,
QuickBooks will always follow the last transaction number saved on the system. Thus, editing the journal number of your posted entries won't affect your records.
