Hello Gilly1, there is not a way to tell on the main invoice page where the page break would be. I appreciate what you are saying about the page break. Which template are you using?

There are ways in the template to minimise the column size and font size if you have to put in long descriptions, however.

For example, in the cog in custom form styles>content>middle section>edit labels and widths>extend description column minimising other columns. Also, in custom form styles>design>get choosy with your fonts>change font size to smaller font.

Hi gilly1

Is the issue you are experiencing that you have large descriptions which you are unable to condense on to one page or there are breaks within the the invoice itself causing it to be printed on a second page?

Hi John

The problem is the large amount of wording on many of our invoices means that we go over onto 2 sometimes 3 pages,  which is fine,  however we cannot judge where the page break is so therefore we have no control where the invoice breaks for the end of a page.  This looks so unprofessional.

Hello there, gilly1,

Let's try basic browser troubleshooting. This is to check if the error is browser-related. Let's use a private window. Just press Ctrl + Shift + N on your keyboard to go incognito.

Now, log back in to QuickBooks Online. Then, try to create an invoice to check.  If you're able to proceed, let's clear the browser's cache. Check this article for the detailed steps: How do I clear my browser cache and temporary Internet files?

You can also try to use a different browser.

Let me know how it goes so I can assist you further.

Thanks for getting to us, Mike D1.

Let's get this sorted out. We can check if there's possible data damage that is causing this issue. Let's run the Verify and Rebuild Utility Tool within QuickBooks. This tool helps fix data integrity issues.

To Verify Data:

  1. Click on File from the menu bar.
  2. Hover your mouse on Utilities, choose Verify Data.
  3. If it says QuickBooks detected no problem with your data, click on OK. But if there is an issue detected, choose whether to Rebuild Now or View Errors.

To Rebuild Data:

  1. Click on File from the menu bar.
  2. Hover your mouse on Utilities, choose Rebuild Data.
  3. Click on OK on the QuickBooks Information window.
  4. Follow the steps in saving a backup. Just a reminder that if your cursor is still moving while displaying QuickBooks not responding, the rebuild is still ongoing.
  5. Select OK when Rebuild has completed.

Tag me directly if you have other concerns.

Can't someone at Intuit come up with a "line item" <page break> that could be selected like any other item?

After 30 years, still no way to INSERT A PAGE BREAK.  Just fuss and fuss adding blank lines to make your multi-page (mine run 6 -8 pages with dozens of paragraphs of description, and extra lines for subtotals so the invoice is clear and professional.  I laugh because every thread in the forum has at least one recommendation to "Rebuild Quickbooks" or "Repair Install or Uninstall-Reinstall" Quickbooks for something totally unrelated and could not be solved by wasting time.

Hello there, accounting25I understand the need for a page break feature in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Currently, the page break option is unavailable in QBDT. We understand your need for functionality and would love to hear your thoughts about your experience when adding invoice line items. It enables our product developers to consider adding this feature in future updates.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Hover over Send Feedback Online and select Product Suggestion.
  3. Enter your suggestion.
  4. Hit Send Feedback.

Furthermore, you may want to utilize a third-party application to help you add line items when creating invoices. You can find one by visiting this website: Apps for QuickBooks Desktop.

I've added this guide to help you create custom templates for your forms: Use and customise form templates.

You can also check this page for modifying reports and adding details: Customise reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'll be here in the Community space if you have additional QuickBooks-related concerns. Take care.
