Is anyone else having trouble with spliting expenses in the receipts screen? QB just allocates the whole lot to one account regardless of the split entered.

I notice the QB has recently added to ability to split an expense/bill in the receipt screen. This  appears to work well but when I go to check the expense after, the whole amount is posted to one line and the account is whatever QB suggested and not any of the accounts entered in the split.

Is this a known issue or just happening for me?

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community, hello-nc-account. I'll help you split the transaction on the Receipts screen smoothly by performing the troubleshooting steps below.

Beforehand, may I ask for additional information if you received an error when saving the split expenses? I appreciate any further details so I can provide accurate information.

For now, I suggest splitting transactions through a private window to narrow down the result and protect your browser against cookie-based tracking. You can use either of these keyboard shortcuts to save you time:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Firefox: press Shift + CTRL + P

If it works, clear the cache of your original browser to start fresh. If the steps above don't work, use another supported browser.

Lastly, refer to this article if you need steps on how to reconcile your accounts to avoid differences: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to click the comment section below if you have other concerns about splitting entries in QBO. I'll be sure to get back to you, hello-nc-account. Have a good day!

Hi ChristieAnn,

Thank you for your reply. There is no error message, the split appears to be successful, showing correctly on the summary screen then I am able to save the transaction without any errors. When I check on the transaction in the supplier ledger it is then that I realise the split has not been made and QB has posted on a single line to the nominal account suggested by QB.

I have tried psoting a split transaction in private browser (Firefox) and this was unsuccessful.

Do you have any other suggestions please?

Kind regards,

Nicola

Thanks for the prompt reply, @hello-nc-account. We understand this creates confusion on your end since this feature is present in QBO, yet, the split transaction doesn't show where it should be. We also appreciate you for trying the basic troubleshooting steps my colleague provided. Right now, let me direct you to the best help possible.

We recommend contacting QBO Live support so they can review your account and look for the root cause of the issue. Furthermore, you can also ask for a possible workaround to your split transaction in the meantime. Moreover, if this also occurs to other users, they can create an investigation into it.

Here's how to contact support:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon in the upper right corner.
  2. Choose the Search option.
  3. Tap the Contact Us tab below.
  4. Type in a short description of the issue you encountered inside the What we can help you with? box. Then, Continue.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
