It seems like you're encountering a consistent issue with categorizing transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed, particularly with entries related to Interest on bank or other loans. Julie.
In QuickBooks Self-Employed, expenses are categorized automatically as allowable or disallowable based on the information provided in your tax profile. It eliminates the need for manual adjustments.
If these transactions have links to bank rules, you may want to delete them first before categorizing them manually.
However, if the issue persists, it would be best to call our support team, so they can investigate this issue further and provide some remedies for the expenses that have been categorized as disallowable.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us again if you have any additional concerns regarding QuickBooks. We are always here to assist you with any questions you may have. Stay safe!
Do you have bank rules in place? Go through and delete them and then manually categorise the the transactions - this seemed to resolve the problem for me
I have neatly 6000 that is saying disalowable and I know for a fact its allowable. Been doing it for 15 years and your software is incorrect. How can this be changed. Car and van expenses section is saying disalowable. This is not the case. Can it be changed to allow this. Not going to be happy if I got to redo my books through a software issue. Someone programmed and wrote this software. They need to have a closer look at this.
Please advise in the first instance
Hello, @Flipper76.
I recognise the importance of making the car and van expenses as allowable. Let me help you further about this matter in QuickBooks Self-employed (QBSE).
QBSE automatically sets the expense method to "Simplified expenses," which uses a fixed rate per mile driven. If you choose not to use this method and prefer to track your vehicle expenses separately, you need to categorise those expenses under "Travel Expenses." By doing this, QuickBooks will recognize those expenses as allowable deductions for your taxes.
Here's how:

This seems to be a huge problem, one that has appeared in the last three years. I have just checked my tax summary on here (I have an accountant who would usually do this so I haven't looked - I know, I know) and can see huge amounts in the disallowed section under various headings. When I click on the amount that is disallowed I don't get to see a breakdown of what has been disallowed, just all of the transactions under that heading. It is very obvious, however, that all of the transactions in the section should be allowed. I am really worried now that for the last three years I have overpaid my tax due to QB incorrectly categorising items as disallowable. It seems to be crazy that Quickbooks just assigns them with no apparent logic!
