My donor has overpaid and has asked for a refund. I have been watching the video tutorials but there are so many and all different. Can you suggest the best way to show that I have refund the donor through my bank account, so that when I come to do my reconciliation at the end of the month, it shows and more importantly, my donors account is at zero..!
Many thanks

Hello Farmgirlkent69,
Welcome to the Community page,
Here are the steps for your donor (customer refund)
Refund your customer
1. Go to the +new icon in the top right corner of the screen and create a expense
2. Select the customer, the date the money left your account and expense from debtors account-save and close
3. Go back to the + new icon, select credit note, fill in the customer name and amount-save and close
4. Go to sales on the left side of your screen, click customers at the top of your screen and find the appropriate customer
5. Click new transaction on the top right of your screen and select payment
5. On the next screen tick the expense and the credit note (make sure no other transactions are ticked-save and close) this will show the customer refund.

Thank you Ashley. Can I just ask one question. My donor is showing a credit balance because she over paid her rent. If I produce a credit note for her account, will this not show double the amount? Also you say to create an expense, I can't see that. I only have refund receipt, credit note, sales receipt. (I am using Quickbooks online).
Your welcome Farmgirlkent69, you should see the option of expense under supplier in the + new icon section, it should be the first option to select. If you have an open balance then you can use that instead of the credit.
