Transaction type name

Hi, I have a client with a transaction type of "Pledge". This is not an item type. This is a transaction type. Invoice was renamed Pledge. When you open a pledge, it says "Invoice" in the upper left hand corner.

How do I rename Pledge to something else?

Thanks in advance.

It's good to hear from you, @CSGrace.

I can help you change the transaction type name in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

When the company type is set to Nonprofit organization, the Invoice term turns into Pledge. Changing this one is quite easy. We only have to follow a few steps to make it. Let me guide you how:

1. Go to the Gear icon.

2. Select Account and Settings under Your Company.

3. Choose the Company tab from the left side.

4. Under the Company type, click the drop-down arrow for the tax form and select any type you want except the Nonprofit organization.

5. Click Save, and then Done.

Once done, let's refresh the browser either by clicking the Reload icon, or you can press F5 on your keyboard. This way, we'll be able to see if you're now using the Invoice term. Also, you may want to know more about the company settings in QuickBooks Online.

If you have other questions, you can always post it here. I'll help you figure them out. Take care!

My client is non-profit.. I thought Intuit wants the actual entity type chosen so the appropropriate effects that are different from a non-profit and a forprofit would be used. So you are saying it's ethical to change the entity type?

Hi there, CSGrace.

I'm here to clarify and give more details about the transaction type in QuickBooks Online(QBO).

A pledge is a term used when setting a company to a non-profit organization. It has the same function as an invoice. Changing it into something else isn't available unless you'll change the entity type. However, it's possible to change the word pledge to invoice from the email subject line. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Gear icon and click Custom Form Styles.
  2. Click New style in the top right-hand corner and choose INVOICE
  3. Hit the Emails tab.
  4. Change the Pledge name to Invoice under the Subject box.
  5. Click Done.

Once done, you can manually select that template or set them as default when printing or emailing the transaction.

I've included this resource for more insight: Track funds you receive from donors in QuickBooks Online. This contains helpful tips and steps on tracking funds you received from donors.

We're open 24/7, so please don't hesitate to post a comment if you have further concerns or questions about transaction type. Have a good one.
