automatic entry of VAT codes in online version

We are looking at changing from desktop to online (and adding Method CRM).
I'm currently trialling the online version and have noticed that for each order line entered, I have to manually enter the VAT code, whereas with the desktop version this information is pulled through from the customer / supplier centre.

Is there any way of having the same option in the online version?

automatic entry of VAT codes in online version

Hey there, @Charlotte24,

Currently, the features that you've listed are unavailable. I'll be sure to pass this suggestion along to the appropriate channel. Doing so will alert the Product Development Team, letting them know these missing features have been requested to use in QuickBooks Online.

You can also visit the QuickBooks Blog website to see the most up to date information about the products services and features.

QuickBooks Online allows you to connect multiple foreign currency accounts as many as you need. First, you'll need to need to create these accounts and tag the corresponding currency.

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Create a new account.
  2. Click the New button.
  3. The Account window opens.
  4. For the Detail Type drop-down menu, select Bank.
  5. Assign a name and all other information.
  6. Specify whether this is a sub-account of another account.
  7. Provide the Opening Balance of the account.
  8. Hit on Save and close.

Once done, you can now connect your account. Please follow these steps below:

  1. Go back to your Chart of Accounts.
  2. Select the new account that you've created a while ago.
  3. From the View register (or Account history) drop-down, select Connect bank.
  4. Follow the prompts to connect your bank account.

automatic entry of VAT codes in online version

Hello Charlotte24, There are a number of options you can set a previously filled in content to automate for a customer if you are invoicing the same thing and may just need to change amounts. You can also set up default tax codes on expense accounts and income accounts and on products and services so they prefill when added to a line. you can not at the moment set up a default code for a specific customer in invoices itself. Are you using the banking connection to pull through transactions in QuickBooks Online going forward?

automatic entry of VAT codes in online version

Hi Emma

Thanks for your quick answer.

Having looked a bit further into QB Online there is a lot of things that is not available yet in the online version. The things I have found so far are:

- custom fields for item codes (we need these as we have export invoices and need to show HS codes and Country of Origin for each individual item which we only want to show on a couple of invoice templates on each order line ==> see sample invoice attached)

- option to have more than 1 price level list

- sales orders (although Method:CRM would overcome this)

- credit limits for customers
- VAT codes for customers (as you've already mentioned)

These things are too important for us to lose.

In response to your question whether we would be using the bank connection to pull through transactions, my question would be: how many accounts can we connect? We have 3 current accounts in different currencies and have an account for invoice financing.

Do you know if any of the missing features will become available in the near future?
