Hi,
I am trying to file first VAT return in QB and also for MTD but the VAT end date is showing from May to August instead of the quarter May to July.
The VAT settings are start of current period May and quarterly filing frequency. it was showing as the end date in July yesterday so don't know why its showing as August today.
Does anyone know how to change this from August to July.
Thank in advance.

Hello edwardj,
Select Prepare return on this period, you will then be able to change the end date at the top of the page. With MTD, the dates that HMRC are expecting are automatically pushed through to QuickBooks, and so the dates may have changed because HMRC are expecting May to August from you. If you are positive this is not the case, change the end date and submit. If not, log into your HMRC account and confirm which dates they are expecting you to submit.
Thanks,
Talia

Hi, am connected to MTD
Thanks debbieeveburch,
Once MTD is enabled the obligations are sync directly from HMRC, if this is not showing the end date you are expecting you would need to contact them to update the obligation request.

Hi, Any idea how to chnge the VAT end Date for the current version of QuickBooks? The method you described is not available now. I opened th Prepare Return link and there is no method to change the End Date on this screen. Thanks
Welcome to the Community, @GuzziMan.
I understand that you do not have the option to change the end date of your VAT end date in QuickBooks Online.
The option to change the VAT end date will be available if the VAT MTD is turned off. Thus, I recommend turning it off and adjusting the date of the VAT.
Once done, you can turn it back on. It should now show the option to change the VAT at the Prepare Return screen.

Hi,
Client needs to file their final VAT return. HMRC has requested the final VAT return to cover the period from 01/07/2024 to 02/10/2024. In client's QBO, the default period is QE 30/09/2024. I tried to turn off MTD for VAT as you suggested, but I received this message within QBO: "
"You’re about to turn off Making Tax Digital for VAT.
After you do this you won’t be able to use QuickBooks to submit your VAT returns to HMRC.
Before you turn off Making Tax Digital in QuickBooks, you must unsubscribe from the service with HMRC.
Please confirm by ticking: ___ I’ve unsubscribed from Making Tax Digital for VAT" What should I do next?
Here's what you need to do next, RBK.
It’s crucial to file your VAT accurately and on time to ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, avoid potential penalties, and maintain your business's financial health. To comply with HMRC's requested period, you can tick the prompt to turn off MTD for VAT. Then, adjust the date of the VAT as suggested by my colleague above. Once done, follow the steps below to re-authorise MTD for VAT.
