Chart of accounts deposit

In UK but keeps going to USA

In chart of accounts click on bank account to see payment and deposits. Against customer deposits says "Payment" is Supplier Refund (when it is a deposit) why is this?  Does it make a difference to anything, such as VAT

Chart of accounts deposit

Every detail matters, and accurately recording transactions significantly influences financial statements, Michelle. I'll explain further why a customer deposit appears as a payment in the bank register in QuickBooks Online.

To identify the root cause of this situation, I want to clarify how this transaction was recorded. It will help us determine the issue and create an appropriate solution.

If you record a deposit as a vendor transaction like a check, bill, or vendor refund, QuickBooks will categorize it as an expense transaction. It will appear as a payment in your bank register.

If you record the deposit as a customer transaction as an invoice, sales receipt, or refund receipt, QuickBooks will classify it as a sales transaction. It will appear as a deposit in your register.

It's important to note that QuickBooks relies on the accuracy of how the transaction is entered within the system. It's essential to double-check the data you enter into the system to prevent potential errors from affecting your financial reports.

Moreover, to learn more about how to match and categorize your transactions in QuickBooks, we recommend consulting these articles for additional information.

In addition, I suggest viewing this material about reconciling your accounts to ensure that your book always matches accurately in the future: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
