How do I file my VAT return when the QB screen has a green circle spinning, which prevents me from viewing VAT returns or creating my new return?

I am a long-term user of Quickbooks. When creating my VAT return on the correct screen, I cannot see historical returns and get a green circle, which prevents me from doing anything unless I close the browser and restart.

I am stuck because I can no longer go to HRMC.gov directly to submit a return (I have to use software to file).

What do I do?

I can help you help you file VAT returns in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To begin with, let's access your account using a private or incognito browser. There are times when the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, thus causing websites, like QuickBooks, to act weirdly. You can use any of these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Ctrl+ Shift + N for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge
  • Command + Shift + N for Safari

Once logged in, you can try submitting your VAT return via MTD again. If it was successfully sent, you'll need to go back to your regular browser and then clear the cache to delete the accumulated site data and junk files. Alternatively, you can switch to other supported browsers to further isolate the issue.

Moreover, consider visiting this page to gather information about recording, adjusting, and deleting VAT payments in the tax centre: Manage VAT payments in QuickBooks Online

If you have further questions about filing VAT in QBO, you can comment below, and we'll respond to you as soon as possible.
