We appreciate you posting in this forum, andyprivate. The information below ensures that you can stop VAT from showing in future transactions without downgrading your plan.
Once we turn on the VAT feature, we're unable to disable it after you deregister from VAT. You don't have to downgrade your QuickBooks Online subscription. As a workaround, I'll show you how to set your default VAT code as No VAT:
- Choose Account and settings.
- In the Advanced tab, look for Accounting and select the pencil icon.
- Change the default tax selection to No VAT.
- Click Save and then Done.

For more ways to help reduce the chance of VAT posting in error, you can check out this handy reference: Turn off VAT in QuickBooks.
Moreover, if you still want to lower your monthly costs, you'll want to review the features of your current plan and compare them to the lower-tier plan to ensure it meets your needs: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/uk/pricing/.
Please know that you're always welcome to reply to this thread anytime if you have other questions or concerns with VAT feature. I'll be around for you. Take care and have a good one ahead.
