Splitting Payments and VAT

I need to find a way of splitting a transaction into "Income" and "100% VAT"

For example:     Split: £2300 into £2000 income and £300 pure 100% VAT payment.

The company I am currently working for has me invoicing for VAT separately but due to payroll structure I will be payed Week 3s salary with week 2s VAT payment (for example). So far I have been unable to find a way to make QBO accept this structure though I confess I am fairly novice.

Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Splitting Payments and VAT

You're always welcome here with the VAT category concern, @BridgesJnr. I'll walk you through the steps of setting up so you can select it when splitting bank transactions.

You'll need to set up the 100% VAT from the Taxes section to select it when categorising transactions on the Banking page. Please know that VAT rates will show according to Tax Agency and Sales or Purchases field you specify. To proceed, follow the steps below:

  1. On the left pane, select Taxes.
  2. Press VAT, then click Add Tax.
  3. Determine what type of tax you want.
  4. Enter the necessary information on each field.
  5. Tap Save.

Splitting Payments and VAT

Hello BridgesJnr,

Welcome aboard to the Community. I'm here to help you split a transaction to separate income and the VAT in QuickBooks Online.

For an income transaction downloaded in bank feeds, you can split the payment and categorize to separate the VAT. Choose the correct accounts and VAT option to ensure your book is accurate.

Here's how:

  1. On the left navigation bar, click Banking.
  2. Choose your bank account.
  3. Go to the For review tab.
  4. Select the payment.
  5. Choose Categorise.
  6. Press Split
  7. Separate the income and the VAT.
  8. Enter the necessary information.
  9. Hit Apply and accept1.JPG

Occasionally, you may match the wrong transactions or make incorrect categorizations in Banking. I've attached a link you can visit for additional guidance on how to undo added bank data: Unmatch downloaded bank transactions or move them to another account.

Let us know if you still have more questions or concerns about splitting a payment by leaving a reply. We'll be sure to get back to you. Take care, and have a great rest of the day.

Thank you very much for your reply, are you able to explain how you are able to select 100% VAT as a VAT category? From my dropdown menu I am not able to select that option.

Thanks!
