Hi there,
I am based in the UK and provide services to companies based in the EU and as such send invoices with the VAT code ECS, however the sales amount does not show up in Box 8 on the VAT report as requested by HMRC. It is included in Box 6 but this should be for UK sales. Please advise what needs to be done to resolve this otherwise the VAT return is incorrect. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi DPL2
When using 0.0% ECS VAT codes on invoices the transactions will only populate in box 6, they will not populate in box 8.

Hi DPL2
Goods & Services are treated differently on the VAT return.
Your question seems to indicate that you are - sort of - aware of this.
Box 6 of the VAT return is for Goods & All Other Outputs (i.e. Services too).
Box 8 is for Supplies of Goods and Related Costs...
(i.e. only the Services involved in supplying goods)
See https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-fill-in-and-submit-your-vat-return-vat-notice-70012#section3 for full information.
VAT Code ECG is the one to use for goods & related costs that you want to have in box 8.
Sales of services get reported in Box 6 along with the rest of your sales. Box 8 is only for sales of Goods.
There is a really helpful reference tool you can see - https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-uk/vat/common-vat-codes/00/239529
