Why is VAT code ECG (20%) not filling out correct boxes on my VAT return (I'm on flat rate)?

Hi @astrawoman,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I'll take care of your query about the 20.0% ECG VAT code in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

I've taken steps to replicate your situation in my test account and found the VAT code stated above posts to Box 2. The net amount posts to Boxes 7 and 9. I suggest checking your expense transactions and ensure the correct VAT code is used. Another thing, please check that the VAT code you're using is the default 20.0% ECG and not a custom one. This is so you can be sure that it posts to the correct Boxes.

You can refer to this article to see a table that lists the default VAT codes in QBO and their corresponding Boxes that they report to: UK Flat Rate Scheme: How does it work?

When everything's settled, you can go to this article for the steps on how you can submit your VAT returns: Submit a VAT return in QuickBooks Online. It includes an FAQ section that contains answers to common questions about this process.

Hello Astrowaman,

Welcome to the Community page,

How is the vat posting?

How do you think the vat should be posting?

Hello, VAT on EU acquisitions should post to box 2. I've been told in a chat since I posted this that Quickbooks  is not capable of doing this. HMRC have told me that Quickbooks must correct this for me but I'm not having any joy. In the meantime I cannot do my VAT return as required.
