I've just been googling the exact same thing and came across this post. I just wanted to add my support to Starwillow's comment that myself and my team also find the new update really unhelpful.

It was much better when you could single click a line from the customer account and the system brought up the invoice. 

Viewing an invoice is not the same as editing an invoice and I'd much prefer the choice so I don't accidentally edit an invoice. When you're viewing transactions on a customer account, you can't add the description field as a column. If that were available, there would be less need to view the invoice in it's entirety as the information would all be there. If you could please pass my feedback onto the relevant team as well it would be much appreciated. Less is more when it comes to 'mouse clicks'! Thanks :)
