I need Purge Company Information

Hello, MudithaE.

I can share some insights regarding purging the company's information in QuickBooks Online.

If your QuickBooks Online data is less than 60 days, you have the option to purge your account if you're using QuickBooks Online Essentials, Plus, and Advanced. The system deletes all data entered into the company, and you're unable to restore them.

To purge the data, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Change the URL to include /purgecompany.
  3. Example: URL shows https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage, change to: https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany.
  4. The next screen will provide a summary of the items to be deleted.
  5. Type the word “YES” once the data gets deleted, then click OK.
  6. Click Wipe Data once your selections are complete.
  7. Once the deletion is complete, you will be rerouted to your home page.

However, if it's more than 60 days old, you need to cancel your account and start a new subscription.

To cancel your account:

  1. Go to Gear icon and select Account and Settings under Your Company.
  2. Select the Billing and subscription tab.
  3. In the QuickBooks section, select Cancel.
  4. Follow the steps to cancel your account. If you use payroll, you should cancel your payroll account too.

To start a new account:

  1. Go to https://quickbooks.intuit.com/choose-country/.
  2. Fill up the User ID and password.
  3. You can use the same user ID and a password you previously had. If you activated payroll in the account, this is the best option for you.

For more information about this process, check out this article: Delete your data and start over in QuickBooks Online.

@MudithaE

If your plan is QBO SS or your account is > 90 days, you have to open a new QBO account

I took the first step provided, but when I remove "homepage" and replace it with "purgecompany" there is an error message that says "404 page not found". I was sure to not delete more than in the example provided. My account with this company that I want to purge has been active for less than 60 days.

Make sure your plan is Essentials or Plus to purge your account. Otherwise, you have to purchase a new one.

I need Purge Company Information

Hi there, @Adele 62. I'm here to provide details on how you can purge the data of your QuickBooks Online (QBO) company file.

In QBO, you can only use the purge company option if your QBO account is less than 60 days old. Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QBO account as the primary administrator.
  2. Next, go to the URL in your browser's address bar. Then, delete all the text and enter the following web address instead: https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany
  3. Type Yes, to confirm you want to delete your company data,
  4. Then, click OK and select Wipe data.

However, if the account is more than 60 days old. Your only option is to cancel your subscription. Once done, the system will keep your data for one year and delete it afterwards.

  1. Sign in to your QBO account as the primary administrator.
  2. Then, go to Settings and select Account and settings.
  3. Next, click Billing & subscription.
  4. In the QuickBooks section, choose Cancel subscription or Cancel online. If you're cancelling a trial, select Cancel your trial.
  5. Follow the onscreen steps to proceed.

For reference, check out this article: Delete your data and start over in QuickBooks Online.

Before doing the steps above, I suggest exporting your QBO data and saving it to your desktop external drive for future use.

You can always post your QuickBooks concerns here in the Community. Have a good one, and stay safe.

Hello there. I can help you reset your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account, Ermo.

Based on your subscription level and the age of your bookkeeping records, you can begin anew with your QBO program. For books that have been in use for 60 days or more, cancel your current company and start afresh. If your books are less than 60 days old, purging your company will clear your records without affecting your subscription. You'll then need to manually input any pertinent employee or historical data you wish to retain.

To retain existing data, it's necessary to manually export all transactions, name lists, and reports from your company and save them in a designated desktop folder so you'll have a secure backup of your data for any future use and can easily import it back into the system.

You can also import a custom accounts spreadsheet or your current accounts from another QBO, create and add accou..., and manually upload bank transactions.

If I have linked a bank account do I need to unlink the bank account before I purge the company?

Hello there, @shhc. Once banks and third-party apps are connected, purging your company can permanently damage these connections.

That said, unlinking or disconnecting your bank account before purging the company is essential. It will also ensure that you can start your QuickBooks from scratch seamlessly.

Before you proceed, please know that you'll need to cancel your current company and start afresh if your book is 60 days or more. However, if your books are less than 60 days old, you can purge your company to clear your records without affecting your subscription.
