Hello ColinB1, thanks for posting on the Community page, can you please try changing it to either 1 hour or 2 hours then save that then log out, log back in and go back and save it to 3 hours again and see if that reoslves it for you or not.
Did this work for you? I am having this problem as well. Sometimes it's only 10 minutes or so and I am logged out. A lot of times I've had multiple tabs open, all with work in progress, and it all gets wiped out. One of the many frustrating things with QB online.
I appreciate you for joining this thread, Tezz3404. It looks like you're also using the QuickBooks Online desktop app.
Frequent logouts and losing work in QuickBooks Online isn't the thing I want you to experience. The online desktop app automatically recognizes your sign-in and opens QuickBooks Online. Unless you sign out, it will not ask you to sign in again for six months. To isolate this behavior, you can start uninstalling and reinstalling the application. It helps correct any issues in your settings.
If the same thing happens, check your reliable internet connection while using QuickBooks Online. Alternatively, you can follow the suggestions below.
If these steps don't resolve this, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks support for further assistance. They can examine your books, figure out why it's happening on your end, and provide troubleshooting to resolve this in no time. Log in to your QBO account and select Help. Then, Contact us.
I also suggest checking these articles for more information and tips to optimize the performance of QuickBooks, preventing any potential slowdowns or performance issues:
Please feel free to reach out if you have further concerns or questions regarding staying logged in to your QBO account and completing tasks. I am here to assist you and provide any necessary guidance.
Stable internet, really? You don't think I'd notice that in all the other things I have open and running? And I don't want to have to use Incognito as I don't want to switch back and forth between windows. I don't need to run any other website I use for business in Incognito to make them function correctly. And I also don't want to constantly clear my browser cache. Again, I don't have to do either of those things for other websites, but this seems to be the advice in almost every official QB response on here for all the various problems people have. I've talked to QB support about the log out issue and they just repeated this same drivel. Case:15106824445
So you have any actual solutions?
Experiencing the same issue. Super frustrating. I did all the ideas but it still continues to kick me out after 10 minutes or less even though my settings are set at 3 hours. Any help would be appreciated.
This is not the kind of experience we want you to have while using QuickBooks Online, @Tyler O.
We've had an issue with QuickBooks Online (QBO) logging out before the 3-hour settings, but it's been resolved now. If you've already tried using a private or incognito browser, restarting your browser, and clearing your browser's cache as mentioned in the thread above, I suggest reaching out to our Customer Support team. They can further check your account in a secure environment and help you resolve it.

It absolutely hasn't been resolved in the desktop app for QuickBooks Online.
I have the same issue and have done all the recommended steps. It always happens randomly in the app, and even after 2 phone calls with customer service, the problem still isn't resolved. It's making QBO unusable.
Hello there, Francesca.

Same here! I have it set at the THREE hour max, and even just went in and scrolled around each of the QBO tabs I had open (to try and pre-empt the timeout) about 2 minutes before it timed me out of all of them anyway, causing me to lose all my work AGAIN (I had barely been logged in for one hour at that point)! Please don't repeat the same useless solutions suggested several times already above, as I have already tried them all. I am really losing my patience wasting SO much time losing work again and again because of this bullsh*t!! I work from home and nobody else can access my computer so even three hours is too little, but I could live with that if it actually went the full three hours of inactivity without logging me out. Rather, it just seems to time me out at random at the worst possible times when I am finally making progress. And it's not my internet because I don't have this issue with any other sites. Please actually have your developers work on this issue instead of giving the same useless advice.
Yes, having exactly the same issue. Very frustrating. It wouldn't be so bad if it remembered what working on when timeout activates, especially when working on several tabs.
Hi timlevers, thanks for letting us know that you're also encountering this issue
For clarification, are you experiencing the timeout on QuickBooks Online (web version) or the QuickBooks Online Desktop App (for Accountants)?
Using Quickbooks Online (Web version)
This has been an ongoing problem in the over 2 years since being forced off Desktop. I'll get signed out after 10 minutes, 2 hours, 45minutes, all random. Intuit don't care, they won't fix it. They don't even fix the obvious issues so why try and fix this one, anooyance yes, but we just have to deal with it. But, this thread will probably be replied to by one of the community bots asking to call them to try and resolve their problem.
Thanks for confirming, timlevers. We'd like to get some further information to support you with this.
Which web browser do normally use to access QuickBooks? Additionally, are you logged out of QuickBooks on all tabs, or only on the tabs that you are not viewing?
I am using Google Chrome, latest version downloaded 10/05.
It affects all open table, including the one last looked at. And sometimes when you log back in on same pages, the next menu request made results in a error, so have to close tab and open a new tab.
Yes desktop used to remember which page(s) we being viewed (I assume through use of cookie) so why not with web version.
And if we have to keep clearing cache, this affects other programmes/apps we may be working with where the cookies/pages are working correctly, so then have to be re-loaded.
Thank you for re-engaging in the thread and providing additional details about your timeout concern, tim.
QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and QuickBooks Online (QBO) both use cache to remember certain elements and data during your session, such as recently viewed pages.
If you are frequently getting signed out while using Chrome, the issue could be due to its default settings. Some search engines automatically clear cache or cookies after each session or after a certain period. You should check your browser settings to see if this is the case.
As for clearing the cache, we provide this option as a troubleshooting measure since this process refreshes the temporary data stored in your browser, potentially resolving unexpected behavior or errors while using QBO that may have occurred due to outdated or corrupted cache files.
In the meantime, I suggest using Incognito mode to prevent experiencing persistent sign-out problems. Alternatively, you can also utilize other supported browsers.
I'm hoping you're able to log in to QBO seamlessly, timlevers. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have additional queries about accessing QBO. I'm here to support you every step of the way.
It’s funny is that Tim as I suggested about the default page being a users last page when logged out. But this was rejected because the suggestions forum isn’t doing its job properly as Intuit won’t promote it fully.
It's been happening to me too in Canada - I get suggestions to do all the things I've already said in my question I've tried. So frustrating.
