Thanks for joining this conversation, @my_ac.

If you already created a daily sales template, all you need to do is to manually enter the backdate in the Sales Receipt date field. You can also use this field to add the date of the current day sales entry. Before doing so, please note that this may affect your VAT.

Here's how:

  1. In QuickBooks Online (QBO), go to the Gear icon at the top right to get to the Recurring Transactions.
  2. Locate the template, then tick Use under the Action column.
  3. Type the date in the Sales Receipt date field and enter the other necessary information.
  4. Hit Save once done.

Hello @belindabot,

You can create a "food and drink" category of your sales item. Let me walk you through how.

  1. Go to Gear, then Products and Services.
  2. Choose New, then Stock, Non-stock, or Service.
  3. Enter the Name, and Item/Service code.
  4. Under Category, select Add new (or look for "food and drink" if you already have).
  5. Type the category Name. Then, Save.
  6. Click the Income account drop-down.
  7. Hit Save and close.

Once done, pull up sales by product/service detail report to view your sold items by category. Here's how.

  1. Go to Reports, then type Sales by Product/Service Detail.
  2. Select a Report period.
  3. Click Run report.

I've added some screenshots below on how it looks like in the report. You can check this awesome article for details: Group your products and services into different categories.

I would like to enter my daily sales I have a public house / restaurant. im looking to put it in as under food & drink takings for each day?

HELP... I am a complete newbie who bought a restaurant. I am using the GLOBAL version of Quickbooks... which means that I only have the choice of entering a food receipt as EITHER a product or a service.... I am completely torn as to whether it is a product or a service or both ... ha... obviously I want to be able to deduct from COGS etc...it strikes me as odd that we have made money :) Also, do people separate out event food revenue from their daily sales? Very curious.

Please help.

Thanks

Hello, ttempte. While we're unable to offer specific recommendations, I can provide you with some tips to help you effectively track your daily sales in QuickBooks Online.

You can review the following product and service types for you to be guided on how you can enter a food receipt on your account:

  • Stock: Products you sell and track quantities for. Stock features are available for QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced. Here's how to turn on and use stock features.
  • Non-stock: Products or items you purchase or sell, but don't need to track quantities. For example, nuts and bolts you use for installation jobs but don't sell directly.
  • Service: Services you offer to customers.
  • Bundle: Various products or services you sell together as a single item. For example, a gift basket.

Additionally, you can reach out to your accountant if you're confused about what to use. They're also capable of keeping your books organized for you.
