Hello, emevans-live-co-.
If your client hasn't set up a QuickBooks Online (QBO) account yet. He will need to access this web page and have your client click the link Create an account. Look for it below the Sign-in button.
Once already finished creating a QBO account, confirm the email address used. By this time you can send your client an invitation. They'll be able to log in to their QBO company now.
On a different note, here's an article that walks you through how to connect all your clients' accounts in one place: Connect accounts as a Master Administrator.

Sorry not trying to cause confusion but just checking. If I set them up on QuickBooks as their bookkeeper/Accountant (as in they haven't already got it set up), could I invite them on the simple start package? Will they be able to take a photo of an invoice and upload it? Sorry for all the questions, I'm very familiar with QuickBooks but not with setting up clients and want to make sure I choose the best package for them.
