automatic posting of ‘deposits with Rules

What happens is that the bank downloads come into the account showing that they have a rule attached but although the rule is set up for an automatic posting it doesn’t do it. Th only way I have found to do it is to go to the rule of one of the items, open the rule details as though to edit it. Delete the minus sign that appears in the amount box and then close the box. The entry is posted along with all the others awaiting automatic posting!

That's one way to troubleshoot bank rules error, FrankH.

Is this the first time the bank rule didn't work with the downloaded transactions? Let's try to delete the bank rule and recreate it. This is to make sure your bank rules will be working smoothly the next time there are downloaded transactions to be posted. It won't affect the added transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Click Transactions on the left pane.
  2. Select Rules.
  3. Locate the bank rule, click Edit under the ACTIONS column.
  4. Select Delete.
  5. Click Yes.

Then, check this article to recreate the bank rules.

Let me know if you have other questions. I'll be more than happy to help.

automatic posting of ‘deposits with Rules

Hi Mary

Thanks for your reply. I am looking into this issue for one of my QB clients - it is a charity with supporters who donate on a regular basis (usually monthly).
So my client has set up 250 rules to automate the posting of their donations. What happens is they come in into the banking area showing that they have a rule attached but don’t automatically post; if you then edit just one of the rules and save then ALL the transactions get posted.
I did this myself this morning: there is something strange: when you edit the rule it shows the value as negative

if you try and save it without making changes it gives an error

so then if I remove the minus and save it, it then triggers the auto-postimg of ALL the outstanding transactions with autopost rules.

However if you go back into the rule it shows it as negative again!!??

Any ideas?

Thanks
Fran

automatic posting of ‘deposits with Rules

Hi there, FrankH,

The amount set-up for money in transactions change to negative figures after saving for the bank rule has been raised to our Product Engineers.

I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Team so they can add your account to the investigation (INV-50860). This way, you'll be able to receive updates about the issue via email.

Let me know if you need anything else with QuickBooks. I'm always right here to help.
