You certainly can, @Eric R.

I'd be delighted to walk you through the steps of unlinking your bank account from QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before we begin, you'll want to ensure you've categorised your transactions in the For review tab. Unlinking your bank account deletes all transactions that need to be categorised in the For review tab.

Once ready, you can follow along with these steps on how to unlink or disconnect your bank in QBO:

  1. Go to the Banking or Transactions menu.
  2. Click the Banking tab and select the tile for your bank account.

I unlinked my bank account; however, my profit and losses still show information from that bank account transactions.

Disconnecting your online banking account in QuickBooks won't change any existing accounting data and transactions in your company file, Jaime. Let me provide input when managing these entries.

In QuickBooks Online, disconnected accounts from online banking will stop downloading their new transactions and delete the entries that still need to be categorised.

However, the existing accounting data in your file will remain unchanged, and you can reconnect it at any time to start downloading the transactions again. Thus, they'll remain intact and stay on your financial reports since they rely on each other to stay balanced and accurate when filing your taxes.

Here's an article you can visit for more detailed information: Disconnect accounts connected to online banking in QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, it's recommended to perform monthly account reconciliations to ensure the transactions in your records correspond to those in your bank statement.

I'm always available on this forum if you require additional assistance managing online bank transactions and data reports in your account. Stay safe and have a great weekend ahead!

Hello there, Jamie. I'd be glad to help you with your concern about removing the data from the wrong bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To stop the syncing of transactions from the incorrect bank account, it's essential to disconnect it from QuickBooks Online. Once disconnected, the data flow will cease, ensuring that no further transactions are imported from that particular bank account.

If any transactions were inadvertently added to your bank register during the syncing process, we can work on removing them by deleting the account from your Chart of Accounts (COA). This will help maintain the accuracy of your financial records and eliminate any data associated with the incorrect bank account.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear ⚙ icon.
  2. Select Chart of accounts.
  3. Find the account you want to make inactive.
  4. Click on the Action ▼ dropdown, and then select Make inactive.

I've added this article so you can get more information and find out how to make an account active again: Make an account inactive on your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Thank you for your help; however, I do not have that option of selecting “chart of accounts” on my QB soloprenuer.

The option to select Chart of Accounts is applicable in QuickBooks Online, Jaime. I'm here to provide the detailed process to remove transactions from an incorrect bank account in QuickBooks Solopreneur.

In QuickBooks Solopreneur, transactions are automatically downloaded and categorized after connecting your bank and credit card accounts. When disconnecting from online banking, the system will only stop downloading recent entries and remove uncategorized ones. Therefore, it's essential to manually exclude each entry to ensure they'll no longer appear in your book after unlinking your bank account.

Here's how:

  1. Head to Transactions.
  2. Locate the income or expense you need to remove.
  3. Click on the pencil icon.
  4. Select Exclude.

On the other hand, you can reorganize your entries if they are miscategorized or weren't auto-categorized to ensure they're posted accordingly. For more information, please refer to this article: Categorize bank transactions in QuickBooks Solopreneur.

Moreover, you may also scan this material to gather insights into how your income and expenses match a line in your Schedule C: Schedule C and expense categories in QuickBooks Solopreneur and QuickBooks Self-Employed.
