Hi there, @Honor Duff.
I'll share some information on how to organise your salary seamlessly in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
You'll want to categorise your salary as Business income if you're in a freelancing job. It determines your estimated taxes and appears on your financial statements. That said, money earned from self-employment can be classified as a business. Otherwise, put it as Personal income if it is a full-time job. All money that does not come from being self-employed is personal.
If you're using the app on an iPhone or iPad (iOS) or an Android phone or tablet, I'll show you how to do it:
- Go to the Transactions menu if you're on an iOS device. Select the menu ☰ icon and Transactions if you're on an Android device.
- Find a transaction on the list.
- Swipe left to categorize it as Business or suitable for Personal. If the transaction is a mix of both, select the transaction and then choose Split.
- Review the category QuickBooks selected in the banner. If you need to change the category, select the category link. Then, choose a new category.
If you want to use QBSE on a web browser, follow the detailed steps in this article: Categorise transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
Moreover, I still recommend reaching out to your accountant to ensure your books are accurate.
