How can I disconnect my bank account from quick books

You'll have to select the bank account you want to disconnect from the Banking menu in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @alastair1. Let me further guide you about this.

Here are the things you need to know before disconnecting a bank account from online banking in QBO:

  • The account will stay active. The system just stops downloading new transactions.
  • QuickBooks will delete any transactions that still need to be reviewed in the For Review tab.

Before doing so, please know that it isn't recommended to disconnect an account if you've encountered a connection error. You may download duplicate transactions when you reconnect it. You can follow the steps to fix online banking errors instead.

When you're ready, here are the steps:

  1. Go to the Banking or Transactions menu.
  2. Select the blue tile for your bank account you want to disconnect.
  3. Click the Pencil icon to edit the account, then select Edit account info.
  4. Go to the File Upload Account section, then click the Disconnect this account on save checkbox.
  5. Select Save and close.

I've attached screenshots below for your reference.

In case you want to manually download transactions from your bank and then manually import them into QBO, I'm adding this article to guide you how: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Once your transactions are in, you'll have to review and match them to the entries in the system. You can refer to this article for the detailed steps: Categorise transactions. It includes steps on how to exclude personal and duplicate ones.

Additionally, I'd recommend reconciling all your accounts in QBO. This is to effectively monitor your real-life transactions and the growth of your business. For the step-by-step guide, you can check out this article: Reconcile an account. It also contains information about editing completed reconciliations.

Please don't hesitate to drop a comment below if you have other concerns or follow up banking inquiries in QBO. I'm just around to help. Take care always.
