Hello Michael, Thanks for the clarification. In order to bring QBO in line with the bank balance if there are 14 years of difference but you want to correct that for the current financial year so your balance sheet shows correctly it would be a case of doing a journal entry to amend the bank balance to what it should be in QB however you would then need to offset that change against another chart of account. We'd advise confirming with an accountant the best way to show this. As the difference is so large and we do see you do not want to go over 14 years' worth of data. The alternative would be starting from the current financial year and your accountant closing the previous financial year.
Let me help you sort this out, Michael Hunter.
There are several reasons why QuickBooks may not recognize a match:

Thank you for the reply, however i am unsure if this is correct in my case.
my quickbooks started in 2007 and when i receive payments i deposit them into my bank account on the software, so for 14 years quickbooks has seen money going into my bank but nothing out as i never used it for this purpose.
now in 2022 i have connected my bank and there is a difference of £700,000.00 between my actual bank and quickbooks account

I migrated from desktop to online several years ago but still did not connect banking until now. I can not set the opening balance as it is now as opening balance was in 2007.
Hi there, Michael Hunter
Please allow me to join the thread and lend a helping hand so you'll be able to connect your account to QuickBooks Online (QBO).
For me to give you the right amount of information, may I know if you've received an error message when trying to connect your account?
There are certain bank errors that block QuickBooks from downloading new transactions. If you happen to encounter one, follow the links listed in the Step 4 section of this article to be guided in fixing it: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions.
If the issue persists, we can perform some troubleshooting to see if it's a browser-related cause for this behavior.
We can start with opening a Private Window or an Incognito Window in your web browser. This will open your account in a clean slate and loads fresh data.
Here's how:
If it works, you can go back to your original browser and clear the cache. Alternatively, you can use other compatible browsers.
You'll also want to manually enter transactions to your bank. Please read this article for more information: Manually Upload Transactions into QuickBooks Online.
In addition, you can match transactions that you've entered in QuickBooks. Here's an article for reference: Categorize and Match Online Bank Transactions in QuickBooks Online.
Drop me a message below with updates on your banking connection concern. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Always take care!
