QuickBooks Desktop

QuickBooks Desktop is being discontinued on 30 June 2023. Will I still be able to use my QuickBooks Desktop after that date?

Which QB Desktop year version do you run?

You have a one time license, correct? There are still conflicting explanations on this matter. Be sure to secure backup files and portable files by June 30th. If you are unable to run the program later, you can purchase a third-party service to convert your data to QB Online or another program.

Thanks for your reply. I do have a one time licence so I've bought the software and so I would contest any decision to take it away from me. QuickBooks online would be no good for me as I'm often travelling where there is no internet connection.

Hello johnwhetstone, thanks for posting on the Community.

Access to QuickBooks Desktop will end on 30th June 2023 for UK customers. The exceptions to this are for those who have an outright licence for QuickBooks 2015 or earlier versions, or for those who have a perpetual licence purchased via one-off payment (either directly from Intuit or through a retail outlet like Curry's) whom will still have access.

I'm not looking for any support or updates, just the right to use software I purchased via one off payment from an approved Intuit retailer.

I can't believe Intuit would penalise small businesses, particularly in the current economic situation. Some of us who travel to places without internet access and/or need to raise purchase orders and can't afford the internet monthly fees would be seen as being penalised by a large corporation. I'm sure they wouldn't want the bad publicity. Let's hope common sense prevails.

Hello Johnwhetstone, so if you have an outright license for anything older than 2026, you can use it after the discontinuation date, but there's no support, no activations, no updates or anything be nothing for it.

Hello Ashleigh1

How do I find out if I have an outright licence? I paid for the software in full. Also I assume there is a typo in your reply as you say "outright license for anything older than 2026" Do you mean 2016?

Thanks. John

Thanks for getting back into this thread, johnwhetstone. Allow me to share additional insights about QuickBooks Desktop discontinuation notice.

As my colleague mentioned above, you can keep access to your QuickBooks Desktop company file if you've purchased your account via a one-off payment from an approved Intuit retailer.

To enable you to know what license you have on your desktop file, you can open your QBDT account and click F2 from your keyboard, and a Product Information window will appear. All details of your account will reflect from there. Also, for customers who are currently having an outright license, you can obtain access for QuickBooks 2015 or earlier versions.

Additionally, I suggest securing a backup copy of your company file to ensure you have a full copy of your accounting data.

Moreover, I'm sharing this reference to further guide you about the discontinuation policy: QuickBooks Desktop discontinuation support.

Let us know in the comments below if you have additional questions. We'll be right here, willing to help. Have a good one!

Hello FateCandylaneT

I've opened QuickBooks on my desktop and pressed F2 but nothing happens. Is there another way to find out if I have an outright licence? Thanks John

Thanks for getting back to this thread, @johnwhetstone.

I'm happy to provide another solution to help you determine the license on your desktop file.

If you purchased QuickBooks Desktop digitally from our website, you can find your product information in the original purchase confirmation email. If you bought QuickBooks from a retail store, look for a label on the original packaging next to the UPC Code.

In case you're unable to locate the confirmation email or UPC code, I'd suggest getting in touch with our QuickBooks Desktop support. They can assist you in finding the necessary details and determining if you have an outright license.

Additionally, you can use the data export tool to back up your QuickBooks data. This tool allows you to download your company data onto your computer for safekeeping.

My licence number is [removed]. Could you please let me know if this is an outright licence?

Thanks. John

If you paid for the license only once and never paid for any renewals but were able to run it until now, I believe you have a one time license.

Thanks for your reply. Is there any way I can find out for certain if I have a one time licence? If I don't will my software be disabled after 30th June. Thanks John

I appreciate you for coming back to the thread and adding extra clarification about license details. Let me route you to our support to assist you further on this so you can verify the information.

Please know that there are three ways to see your license information. Either in the camps.intuit.com or on the product information window and the other one is the License Look Up tool.

However, to verify if you have one time or outright license, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team as recommended by my colleague. They have the resources to pull up your account in a secure environment and check the complete details about your license.

Lastly, I'm adding this article if you need more information on why QuickBooks Desktop is being discontinued and how to move your data: QuickBooks Desktop discontinuation support.

You're always welcome to post again here in the Community if you have more questions about this or anything else with a license. I'm always ready to assist, johnwhetstone. Have a great day!

Thank you ChristieAnn.

I've contacted QuickBooks Support team and I will be able to use my Desktop QuickBooks after 30th June 2023.

For your information I was asked to press F2 to obtain my licence and product information, this didn't work for me but pressing Ctrl1 did work.

As feedback, I'm lucky that I have a one a one time licence but I do feel Intuit should be more flexible towards small businesses and allow them to keep using their desktop versions if on-line versions aren't suitable for their business. I do accept I won't receive any more support but as I frequently travel to places with no internet access the on-line version would be no good for me.

Thanks again for your help

John

Yes! You can still use Quickbooks Desktop after 30 June - here's how.

1. Disable Quickbooks Automatic Updates. Go to Task Manager and disable everything to do with Quickbooks - you don't need them if they are not supporting!

2. Restart your computer but do not open Quickbooks Desktop ... yet or any other applications.

3. Change the date on your system.. Click on the clock / date at the bottom right of your screen and go to Date and time settings. Untick "Set the time automatically" and change the date and time to 30 June 2023.

4. Open Quickbooks desktop and open a company file.

5. Change the date on your system back.. Click on the clock / date at the bottom right of your screen and go to Date and time settings. Untick "Set the time automatically" so the time reverts to the actual time.

You should be able to use Quickbooks desktop as normal. Bear in mind that Quickbooks will still think the date and time is how you set them earlier - but you can still enter transactions for any date - even into July and forwards.

Let me know how you get on!

Zephyr
