Hi, I started with quickbooks in 2016 and all was fine that year. Somehow I have gotten off this last year (2017) with my balances and was hoping there was a quick fix to adjust my "in quickbooks" balance to match my "bank balance" in quickbooks (this matches my bank account balance it is just the in quickbooks that is way off). If I knew what I did wrong I would go fix it but I have no idea what has happened. Thanks for your help.
Forgot to add I can reconcile just fine with no balance issues. Just can't figure out why it won't match up on its own. :(
Hi Lynners,
Unfortunately the only easy way to find out why the two balances dont match is to reconcile on a regular basis (I normally recommend once a month to my clients).
The other quick fix is sometimes to enter the 'Account History' and take a look at all of the transactions that have gone into that paticular bank account. Transactions with a green symbol have been pulled through on your bank feed directly from your bank account. Be wary of ones that do not have the green icon as they have been entered manually (normally where most error occurs). Also you might want to check above the green icons that there is the letter 'R' which means reconciled. Theoretically all transactions should have an 'R' against them as they should all be reconciled.
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Emily
Hi lynners76,
As @EmilyMockett said, typically mismatches between the In QuickBooks balance and the Bank Balance result from potential duplication of transactions when added from the banking feed instead of matching to a transaction that has been created manually within the Account History.
To identify the cause of the mismatch, I would agree that carrying out a full reconciliation of the account would be the best way to find the discrepancy and allow you to amend the account accordingly.
For a few tips, you can take a look at our article My QuickBooks Online bank account balance is different from my actual bank balance that gives a few other causes of balance mismatches and our Reconcile Hub article gives guidance in doing a full reconciliation of your account also.
Let me know if you need anything further
I am reconciled with no problems all the way up to this month and it doesn't help. :( Ill check the other things you mentioned. Thank you!
Any luck, lynners76?
Yes please?? Did you find an answer? I have the same exact problem. We have had a change-over in our church admin. New person still trying to figure things out. What I would like to do is go in a make an adjustment to my "in quickbooks" register so that it I can balance out like starting over. I have reconciled every month up to this last month. I just need to get my "in quickbooks" balance to match my actual Bank Account balance.
Hello there, joybaptist.
Thanks for visiting the Community. I want to ensure your QuickBooks balance matches with the bank balance so it won't throw off your bank records.
When the amount doesn't match, it could be there are outstanding checks, duplicate transactions, transactions that may have been modified or deleted. For the recommended steps on how to resolve the issue, you can refer to the article provided by @ GillH.
If none of the steps work, I suggest you get in touch with our QuickBooks Online Customer Care Team for help with matching your transactions. You can reach them through the following link: Contact support.
Since you're reconciling, you might want to check out this helpful articles:

Hi everyone,
Please see the video below on how to reconcile your bank accounts to solve this issue:
Also it is worth going into account history to check the opening balance equity account. This automatically pulls through when you connect your bank account. This figure should be the balance of your bank account on the first day of your financial year to be accurate.
Kind Regards,
Emily Mockett
