Last week I renewed my bank account as directed. First it showed 2 accounts, same account replicated. When I deleted the older version I lost all transactions back to beginning of financial year exept 3 or 4 latest. I then had to go to Bank account and download transactions and instal them in QB. I then had to re-enter all Invoices and receipts. This is a real pain and totally unnessessary. I see that the permisiion only lasts until October, so assume I have to go through the whole thing again.
I also look after my wifes account and that is asking me to update bank account. I fear I will have same issues.
I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS.
Please let me know if there is a way round the loss and need to reinstal transactions evry time?

Can I check if you're using QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Self-Employed?
In QuickBooks Self-Employed, when a bank account is deleted all of the transactions associated with that account will also be removed, though our technicians can usually pull all of these back through if needed 👨🏻🔧
Re-authorising the connection shouldn't cause this to duplicate, so I'd like to take a closer look at this. What bank provider with and what is the account-type you have connected?
We are both using QBSE and Bank with Barclays. I have not updated wifes bank tet hoping there is a way round the issue.
I did notice on my account after posting this that most transactions were doubled and I have had to exclude them. Would the transactions have appeared later even if I never ree-imported them?
If you have manually put transactions in or import the transactions in and then the bank has been connected with a live feed it would have pulled through the transactions for you. That would be why there are duplicate transactions showing in your account. You did the right thing by excluding the duplicated transactions.
Next time let it expire then renew the account connection. The mobile app seems to have an issue on renewing so just do it in a normal browser once the connection has expired. While this is not a fix it will work and no duplicates or drama except on the day the connection dies. I do this and may way works 100% while it not be the best, it is a hassle on the day the connection breaks as I always seem to need something that day but least it is only a couple of mins to reconnect. Enjoy!
The exact same think happened to me and I need the transactions pulled back through by an engineer please.
I also use QBSE & bank with Barclays and whenever I renewed my account it duplicated all the transactions, I thought the best way to stop this was deleting the accounts and just leaving my most up to date one but just like gruns this deleted all my previous transactions from the last 2 years. I need these back.
Help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks for joining us on this thread - I've dropped you an email to pick this up with you, please get back to us below if you've having any trouble receiving this, otherwise I'll continue to communicate with you there. :)
I'm having this issue. Being asked to rent connections and jumping through all the hoops but it still comes back with the message in a red box saying I need to renew. I've tried on a desktop with arafi (which never works) and also on an iPad but the same issue.
Thanks for joining this thread, @ticoachjames. I'm here to ensure you can renew your bank account successfully.
May I ask what bank are you using? I appreciate any extra information you can give, and it will help us isolate the issue and provide the best solution.
As mentioned by one of the users, you can try the renewal process using a regular browser once the connection has expired. This way, it will not have any duplicate transactions.
For future reference, I'm also adding this resource to help review transactions and put them in the correct account: Categorise and match online banking entries.
Fill me in if you have additional questions about managing banking entries in QuickBooks. I'll be around to help you. Have a nice day!
Please use a proper browser like chrome. Other browsers don't have the same volume been of testing and thus far better to use chrome than some less used browser.
If you are still having issues then before you start clear browser temporary files and thus you should be in the right position for this to work.
Apps will work but will often fail after you bank hands you back to the app. This is a known issue but and will be fixed at some point. However with many different banking apps and process changes it might work for some and not for others.
I'm having exactly the same issue but i bank wit HSBC, the last 2 times i've had to renew my connection it duplicates my account. If i remove one it deletes everything. It's so annoying. I end up having to delete account then obviously have to start again and go through every transaction. I'm thinking of cancelling my subscription as i havent got the time for this every three months!
Hi Jacqui32, thanks for joining this thread - can we check if you're using QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Self-Employed?
With QuickBooks Self-Employed, if a new connection is created, we can move the transactions as categorised from the old to new account, meaning you won't have to double-back on any work you've already done. If you're finding that a new connection is created each time, please reach our team on this link so that we can investigate further :)
I have had exactly the same. Support from Quickbooks has been friendly and useless. They will get back to me within 15 days.
I am now in a situation where I cant file my VAT return. If I had kept using Excel then this would not have been an issue.
