Classes and Locations in QuickBooks Online Advanced

I've been looking at whether to upgrade our charity from QBO Plus to QBO Advanced. As QBO doesn't support charity functionality in the way that other products (e.g. Sage Line 50) do, we've had to use Classes and Locations as a work-around to give us our distinctions between departments (classes) and funds (locations) to be able to meet UK legal requirements for charities.

When trying to find out about Classes and Locations in QBO Advanced, I've come across a number of pages that suggest these are only available in QBO Plus, including pages that have been updated within the last week (and you launched QBO Advanced UK much earlier this year). See "Turn on class tracking in QuickBooks Online", "Get started with class tracking in QuickBooks Online", "Create and manage classes in QuickBooks Online", and "Set up and use location tracking" (though I do see that this last page was last updated in December 2022).

Does this mean that Classes and Locations are not available to users of QBO Advanced for UK, and if so, what happens to Class and Location data if users upgrade from QBO Plus to QBO Advanced?

Hello Phil_Uk, Thanks for posting on the Community page, Classes and location is only available on our plus or advanced accounts only. We have asked for them to update the articles.

I have used "Class" for over 30 years in QB Desktop to separate out 2 district parts of my business it worked perfectly and i'm sure it would for your needs if it worked like desktop. I am on QB online advance and they do not allow you to import the CLASS field along with required fields so if you have the ability to move to another package then I would RUN.

Hi Ashleigh1,

I thought I'd have a look to see if this had been corrected after six months. Your team has managed to update two of the pages I listed to include reference to QBO Advanced, but not the other two. Those other two have both been updated within the last couple of months (presumably with other information) so it seems someone missed the full detail you gave them. I'll leave it as an exercise for your team to work out which ones still need correcting!

I wonder how many of the other pages about Classes and Locations have also not been updated to reference QBO Advanced. Thinking more widely, has anyone at Intuit done a thorough check to discover how much other information on here needs updating to provide correct information about the Advanced version for the UK?

Hi Ashleigh1,

It's been another six months (and now over a year since I first pointed this out), and two of the pages linked at the top are still saying that these features are only in QuickBooks Online Plus.

It seems that the team you sent the message to have ignored this. It really shouldn't take more than a few minutes for someone to edit the pages to include "and Advanced" in the relevant places! According to the pages, other updates were made to them one month ago.

Please can you try chasing them again, and check in to make sure they've actually made the updates?
