How do I re-start an employee and automatically furlough him using the HMRC furlough scheme?

Greetings, @Kevin C.

You can change the status of your employee in your QuickBooks account.

  1. Go to the Employees menu.
  2. Choose the Employees tab.
  3. Click the name of the employee you want to restart.
  4. Select the Actions drop-down arrow.
  5. Pick Edit leaver status.
  6. Choose Unmark (employee's name) as a leaver. 200.GIF

Once you've changed the employee's status, you can change the employee's start date from the Employment details section.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Employees menu.
  2. Click the employee's name.
  3. On the employee's profile, click Actions and choose Employee's leave
  4. Choose the type of leave.
  5. Enter the Leave information and hit Save.

Hi there.

That's what I tried to do, but the 'Edit leaver status' tab is not selectable - It is greyed out.

Thanks for coming back and performing the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague, Kevin C.

It's possible your browser's cache data is full of frequently-accessed page resources or damaged. When this happens, pages don't load properly preventing you from selecting the Edit leaver status option in the employee's profile.

To better isolate this one, let's try accessing QuickBooks Online (QBO) using a private or incognito window to check if this is a browser issue or not.

Here's how:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Then, follow the steps above provided by my colleague to change the status of your employee.

If it works, clear your browser's cache to delete those temporarily stored files. You may also try clearing Intuit-specific cookies to refresh website preferences on your program. Please proceed to Step 2: Clear Intuit-specific cookies from your browser section in this article: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers like Google Chrome, Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox to be thorough.

If the same thing happens, I'd suggest contacting our Customer Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and investigate what's causing this issue. You can request a callback from our support agent. This way, you won't have to wait on the line.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Click the Help icon on the top right.
  2. Tap the Contact Us button at the bottom.
  3. Enter a short description of your concern.
  4. Tick Continue
  5. Choose Message an agent or Get a callback to connect with our support.

I have a link here that provides you with articles about managing your employee's payroll: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/employees-and-payroll/misc/02/uk-employees-and-payroll?l....

Keep me posted if you need a hand with running payroll reports or any QBO related. I'll be here to ensure your success. Keep safe and healthy.
