Access to QB desktop will be permanently terminated in May 2024

Hi,

I have been using Quickbooks Pro2016 without support and have just received the following warning

Access to QB desktop will be permanently terminated in May 2024.

Does this mean I wont be able to access my data? I don't need the online support, updates etc. I also wasn't aware that i wouldn't be able to access anything and it doesn't give me very long to find another solution. QB online isn't a solution as I have 70 companies.

Thanks for your help with this

It seems they just sent this notification today to "surprise" users. One of our clients just contacted us about this email. We have asked them to create backup files every day starting next week. I'm not sure yet what method they will use to block our ability opening files locally. We will have to wait until June 1.

Yes. I just got the message as well. I don't use online VAT filing so don't give a stuff about MTD compliance. And we have a legal requirement to keep transactions for 7 years. How do we do this if data cannot be migrated to a new system? I also use old data to predict new business.

Hello all, thanks for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community

We appreciate you sharing your sentiments on the recent communication that was sent to users regarding the sunset of QuickBooks Desktop.

For clarification, QuickBooks Desktop was discontinued in the UK in June 2023, but there are ex-subscribed users who are still able to use the software. From May, access will no longer be possible on subscribed versions QBDT 2016 and above, though we are urging all users to migrate to another software solution before this date.

To learn more, please see here. If you are looking to migrate to QuickBooks Online and would like to discuss your options, please speak to one of our experts on 0808 2584 476. For any other queries, please get back in touch and we'll be happy to help.

Thanks. Cloud systems don't work for people who don't always have internet access! And I prefer my full featured, obsolete software to a stripped down subscription m odel that only does what you think I ought to need.

I'm glad you've reached out to the Community for assistance, Alice. I'm here to help you verify the version of QuickBooks Desktop you are currently using.

To do this, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to the camps.intuit.com.
  2. Log in with your Intuit Account info. This could be different from what you use to sign in to your company file.
  3. If you see multiple products listed, select the option for QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. After logging in, hover towards the Products & Services list and then select Details to view your subscriptions.

Additionally, if you're interested in upgrading your QBDT subscription, refer to this article for guidance: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus or Prem Plus.

Please feel free to comment if you have any further questions about determining your QBDT version. I'll be here to assist you throughout the process.

Hi,

I don't have any intuit Account info as we have used a CD to download QB desktop online. We haven't ever paid a subscription therefore please can you confirm that we will still be able to access QB desktop after May 2024.

Thanks for your help with this,

I appreciate your quick response, Alice.

As my colleague, GeorgiaC, mentioned, QuickBooks Desktop was discontinued in the UK in June 2023. This means, that after May 2024 you can still access your company files in your QuickBooks Desktop standalone version, for recording purposes.

The option provided by another colleague to log in to camps.intuit.com is only if you do not have the license number (and the product code) handy.

On the other hand, if you're interested in transitioning to QuickBooks Online, you may refer to the highlighted article for additional information about the Exclusive Desktop Migrator offer.

Additionally, you can use this as a reference to gain more insights on the main features of QuickBooks Online and other how-to articles: Get started with QuickBooks Online.

If you have any further questions about other QuickBooks Desktop processes, please feel free to ask me. I'm here to assist you. Have a great day!

@0786203009

They have said

This means that you can still access your company files in your QuickBooks Desktop standalone version for recording purposes.

Final confirmation? We should wait until June 1 to prove it.

Certainly, you can access locally saved company files in QuickBooks Desktop standalone versions for recording purposes only, regardless of the year version.

I don't use the Internet for VAT accounting and self assessments. Our Paid Accountant does that. Will I still be able to produce new Purchase orders and Invoices and then scan them to email outside of Quickbooks Desktop?

Hi Steve280762, thanks for joining this thread

If you're using a UK QB Desktop version 2016 or above, and were a subscribed customer (i.e., did not purchase the product outright) full access will be removed from the end of May. For further information, please see our updated FAQ.

Thanks for reaching Intuit QuickBooks Community for support today. If you have any further questions that aren't answered on our guide, please get back in touch below.

Thus far, it seems the 'answers' are a little vague, so I ask:

I run a small business, and outright purchased Quickbooks Premier Accountant 2019 Desktop Version.

I am not VAT registered, and do not need to 'go online' to use any feature of it. I only use it for creating purchase orders, basic invoices, receiving and paying bills and for tracking my stock. I do NOTHING ONLINE.

Will I still be able to use it as I have been from day 1 after May 2024, Yes or No?

Thank you

Hello the_markm, thanks for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community. We are sorry for any frustrations this messaging has caused you. If you bought QB Desktop and own it outright, then yes you will be able to use it still.

For clarification, QuickBooks Desktop was discontinued in the UK in June 2023, but there are ex-subscribed users who are still able to use the software. From May, access will no longer be possible on subscribed versions QBDT 2016 and above, though we are urging all users to migrate to another software solution before this date.

If you purchased QuickBooks outright it should have been clear in the message that perpetual outright licences bought through retail would be excluded from the deactivation and will be able to access the QuickBooks desktop product still. We have brought this up with our head office and the message will be updated.

Access to QB desktop will be permanently terminated in May 2024

I bought Quickbooks 2016 outright, but have since gone through various annual updates to Quickbooks 2020 Pro which I am using at the moment, and in this process I suspect I have gone from being an outright owner to a subscriber. I don't use any online services, so discontinuing them doesn't worry me, but its a massive headache if suddenly I can't open the file. How can I check if I am still an "Outright" owner or a subscriber? I have a weak internet connection and mobile broadband and starlink don't work, so moving to QB online is not an option. I have just spent an hour on the phone to QB support and the answer I got from them was to improve my internet connection, but they were adamant I would be able to view my data but not make changes to it.

Hello Chris433, thanks for your post on the Community. You mention you own the 2016 version having purchased it outright. To gain a clear picture so we can advise you correctly the updates you went through did you then subscribe and pay a monthly fee to do that? Or was it manual updates you did? Thanks

Thanks. I bought the UK QB Premier Desktop 2016 via an online shop, and was told last year it was a Retail product and would continue working after the support was taken away. This was via a telephone call to Intuit UK

However, I have the message QB Desktop will be permanently terminated in May 2024

Can you confirm that it will still work please as I am in negotiations of selling the business and still need access to it as we need to settle payments to suppliers etc

Hi thanks for your response.  Yes the last update I did, to 2020 forced me to subscribe and pay monthly. This is where it gets a bit more complicated... I don't now pay a monthly fee (that stopped when intuit tried 3 times last year to move my company files to QB online, but that failed. I now pay for the QB online service although I can't use it, so intuit set my desktop licence to not expire as a workaround. So now I dont know if mine will stop working or not.

Hello Steve280762, thanks for your reply. As you purchased your QuickBooks Desktop product through retail outright you should not have received that message. To confirm QuickBooks Desktop will remain active for you. As mentioned in my post above it should have been made clear in the message that perpetual outright licences would be excluded from the deactivation. and will be able to access QuickBooks Desktop still. Our head office is working on updating the message. We apologise for any stress this has caused you.

@Chris433 @Steve280762

Someone told one of my clients that they should wait until June 1 to make sure. If they can't run QB any longer to open the file, they can find a reused non subscription license or use the trial version as a workaround to access their data for good.
