Change country in QBD so that MoveMyBooks works

Hi, we are having to migrate from QBD to QBO and are in discussions with move my books. We currently use a UK version of QBD and want to move to a UK QBO.

We have 2 companies to move.

One is registered in the UK and one is registered in France.

Both are EURO home currency.

We have finally been told that Move My Books can move the UK entity with Euro currency, but they cannot move the French entity because the company address says France and this will stop their software from continuing.

My question: Is it possible to simply change the country from France to UK in the company information for the purpose of migration or will something really bad happen?

Thanks for reaching out here with us, Nicky21. Let me help you migrate your QuickBooks Desktop data to QuickBooks Online.

With QuickBooks Desktop UK, all QuickBooks versions are only accessible, and support will be until June 30, 2023. We can no longer continue after the discontinuation deadline. However, we can continually manage your business finances by converting to one of our QuickBooks Online (QBO) plans. You may want to check out this article: QuickBooks Desktop discontinuation support hub.

Also, we are unable to make any changes in your registered country since you've set up France upon subscribing to QuickBooks.

To help you migrate your QuickBooks data, I'll be delighted to walk you through converting your desktop file to online. Beforehand, make sure to secure a backup company file to help you restore your data when migrating.

Since you've created your MoveMyBooks account, let's upload your desktop file to MoveMyBooks. To do that:

  1. Select New Conversion to upload your QuickBooks Desktop data and follow the instructions.
  2. Authorise Movemybooks to connect with your QuickBooks Online account.
  3. In QuickBooks Online, select Authorise to confirm the migration.

Once done, you'll receive an email confirmation from MoveMyBooks once the migration is complete. Also, you'll want to check and review your data to confirm if these are imported correctly to the online program.

You can visit this article for more detailed information: Moving from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

@Nicky21

they cannot move the French entity because the company address says France and this will stop their software from continuing.

I am confused with their reason. Do you need to  convert your data from QBD UK version to QBO UK version for your company in France, correct?

Yes, correct. Our business has a UK entity and a French entity, both set up as companies on our UK QBD. We have to move both as QBD is dicontinuing after 30th June.

They've said they can move the UK entity even with it's home currency as euros, but they say that their software will stop running as soon as it reads that a company address is France as it will assume that we have French QBD. I am going to change the address in QBD and attempt running their software anyway....lets see what happens!

Last resort, purchase another 3rd party conversion service.
