Hello Joanne,
You are unable to directly edit the credit note template - this is based on the Master invoice template. If you go to the cog wheel and to custom form styles, you will see an invoice template that is labelled Master. You can then edit the look of this, which will alter the style on your credit notes.
Thanks,
Talia
Hello joanne8,
Welcome to the Community - thank you for your question!
Are you referring to the template style that is used for the credit note?
Thanks,
Talia
Hi Talia,
Thanks, yes I am.

This just doesn't make sense.
Why can I personalize my invoices by importing a form style but not my credit note statement?
So my invoices get to have our personalized styling and my credit notes have a completely different styling. Again, this just doesn't make sense!
When will I be able to personalize credit notes also?
I'm struggling with the migration to quickbooks and it's limitations.
The only way I can think of to "work arround" this limitation is to register the credit note in quickbooks and then remake the invoice in our old program so that the client doesn't receive a credit note that doesn't correspond to our normal branding comunication which is ridiculous because it's double the work.
Why would any company have one style of invoice and a completely different style for credit notes?
Hello, @Lost_In_Spain.
@TaliaI is correct! The ability to import a customised credit note style is currently not available. Its style follows the style used in the standard invoice template. Let me share additional information on how you can personalize how your sales forms in QuickBooks.
You can import the different style of invoices your company is using.
Here’s how:
You can check this article for more detailed steps: Import custom form styles for invoices or estimates.
Meanwhile, I can see how beneficial it is for you and your business the ability to import customise credit note style. I'd personally share this to our Product Developers these suggestions to our Product Engineers for consideration in future updates.
To learn more about using customise sales forms, you can read through these articles:

We will submit the proposal on your behalf, Lost_In_Spain.
I'll personally share your concern to our management team. They'll help us pass this along to our product developers for review. The option to customise the credit note might be added in future updates.

Hi Ana,
Thanks for your comments but its not the text of the message that I am worried about, it's the credit note style.
You can personalize your invoice template in a word document and then upload the word document to be used with all of your invoices.
However, the credit note template is not affected by this personalization.
The logical answer would be to offer a credit note and an invoice with the same style but with quickbooks it seems you can only personalize the invoice template which means you wind up with one personalized style for your invoice and then a Quickbooks style credit note.
1. The quickbooks invoice/credit note style is very ugly.
2. The only way to offer our clients a consistant brand look from our envelopes to our letter head is by personalizing BOTH the invoice and credit note but this seems to be too much to ask for.
The shortcomings and lack of follow through with several aspects of QuickBooks online makes me wonder if the people doing the design and coding work for this program have ever actually had to use their own creation.
Here here.
I need to raise a credit note, on which there is discount applied and I cannot change the source template nor can I import a customised credit note. This is a very basic requirement in any accounting system. desktop version seems to allow this but online is terrible.
Hi Joan.
I can see the importance of modifying a credit note template in QuickBooks Online. I'll pass along the request to our product developers for future enhancements. Rest assured they're working nonstop to deliver the best experiences for all QuickBooks users.
For the time being, you can either look for a supported third-party application through the apps store. Here's the link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home.
On the other hand, you can also visit our blog to stay current with the latest QuickBooks news and feature updates.

Get used to it, the responses to just about every question I've had is "Oh, that isn't available yet" or "there's a plugin with an extra charge" for that........
Funny, i was told this is a top notch accountig program but it certainly doesn't feel that way.
I feel like I've been roped into a halfbaked program was made only halfway so that they can then charge extras for everything.......
Hi
I agree with all previous comments. It's crazy that a credit note cannot be customised. The one template available is rubbish is so many ways it's not usable.
Years ago I used QB desktop and this had great abilities for customisation and on entry screen. Instead of building on this and making improvements QB have gone backwards.
Please campaign to get QB Customised Credit note template.
regards
Joan
Hi,
Yes, you are right it is very annoying that you can't customize your credit note template as I have come across the same problem.
But, I have got around that and make my credit note a bit more presentable.
I created a new template for my sales invoices.
Then use the default template to make changes to what I need on my credit note, getting rid of unwanted column, etc, making the credit note a bit more presentable.

I'm glad you found a work around but you shouldn't have to make work arrounds for something so basic.
There is soo many shortcomings with Quickbooks Online that you are not wrong to think that there is a major disconnect from the developers and the end users of the software. Quickbooks Online is Mickey mouse accounting software. End of story.
As of today, Our Quickbooks Professional Team hasn't solved this problem, also, we can't customize the Purchase Order, Delivery Note Style. and custom field limits at 3. Seems like Quickbooks hires a lot of Fresh Graduates IT newbie
