Hi Kev-20, thanks for the license number, i have passed this onto my colleague who deals with desktop, they have had a look in the system, and they said, its a bit odd, they could see you had some payment issues last year, but not sure why it was saying it was due to expire start of June , changed it to the end of June, so can you please go to Help > manage my license > sync license data online and that should sort it all then be fine for you.
For Ashleigh 1
Well done, it all works now :)
My card last year expired, therefore the payment issue, however, being a bit of an IT person (To a degree), you managed to get my QB working again because I have the internet connection running in order for you to send a file/code etc to my desktop version or it would not work
So the question is, what is that file and how can users delete it? I mean, it's a desktop version, not a website version
I totally understand it will no longer be compliant etc, but surely the UK users should be allowed to go back to the DT version in order to verify their data to that of their online version which is exactly what I'm doing now. In essence, I'm now paying for two QB monthly payments to keep up with things
It is flagged up as June 30th, fair enough, but come on..............not everyone has the time to do this, they are entitled to still access their own data on the desktop version and then, users can feel free to cancel the desktop version once they are happy with what they have done etc
All we want, (UK users) is to still have access to viewing our own personal company data so as we can all move on at our own pace rather than be pressurised to a deadline
Hello Kev-20, that is great to hear it is all sorted for you know. You would need to ring the desktop support line and ask them that question they will be able to answer it for you. So you will only be able to view historical data via the desktop data export tool. When desktop has been discontinued at the end of the month. We sent emails out to all UK desktop customers in plenty time and way in advanced that this is happening so our customers have had plenty of warning that this is happening. Unfortunately this cant be done, like I say you have had plenty of time to move over to either online version or another software come the 30th of june you will only be able to access the account as a read only format you will not be able to carry on using it.
Unfortunately Kev you inhabit an idealised world where Intuit gives a flying something about its loyal customers. It couldn't care less. Their attitude is either move to quickbooks online to be milked for a monthly fee or sling your hook.
The contempt they have shown particularly for their UK customers with this switch off is atrocious and should give you a good indication of what they think of their customers.
I have a Quickbooks Pro 2014 disc which I can use ( have tried and it works) and put my clients back on until it all goes digital (im a small book keeper) so has bought me some time , may retire before then with all the legislation and stuff which we are bombarded with :( good luck guys hope you all get sorted
Thanks Ashleigh 1
Don't I know it phil15, your words are too kind :( to all of us UK users
Out of order .....................thanks QB
ABSOLUTELY FUMING
Cant access my quickbooks desktop, they have already gone home from the support office
I had an email on Tuesday (30th May) saying that it would be discontinued on 30th JUNE
Is this just to insult us all further?
Someone mentioned that they had an old desktop disk - i have a Pro 2013 disk - if I load it and load my last back up from my quickbooks, will that work?
I only need to access the data for information, not to process anything.
If anyone can advise, I'd be very grateful
Anne-Marie
Hello there, @AML67. I'll chime in on this thread to share additional insights about QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) support discontinuation.
Beforehand, may I know if you have encountered any specific error messages while trying to access or open your QBDT company to view your data?
You're correct that QBDT for UK customers and support will end on June 30, 2023. This means there will be no more updates, and you will have to troubleshoot all the issues manually.
Regarding your QBDT Pro 2013 Disk, since it is an outdated version of the product, I recommend reaching out to the QuickBooks Data Services team to assist you with accessing your company data. See this article for more details and FAQs to contact them: QuickBooks Data Services FAQ.
To learn more about our service discontinuation policy, kindly refer to this article: QuickBooks Desktop discontinuation support. This includes frequently asked questions about this policy.
Please comment on this thread if you have more QuickBooks-related questions or concerns. I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Stay safe!
I also have the same problem with desktop not working. Just went to open it and got the same message about moving to online.
As others have mentioned I still have data to move as the Movemybooks service is next to useless for me (Foreign currency / Stock control etc) All things that Movemybooks dont support.
Someone at Quickbooks has a lot to answer for and this needs sorting ASAP!!
Do you have QBD 2019 with the one time license?
I appreciate you for adding a screenshot, HM2019.
It isn't the kind of experience we want you to come across. I understand how hassle it is to move your file to QuickBooks Online. I'm here to help how you can achieve this task.
Before moving, you'll need to know the limitations when converting QuickBooks Online on the Movemybooks website. From there, you'll have to backup your desktop file. Afterward, get your QuickBooks Online company file ready. Then, move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online. Here's how:
Once the data has been converted, it's important to take the time to check for any discrepancies, errors, missing information, or incorrect fields in the converted data. Afterward, get ready to use QuickBooks Online. I've added this article for detailed information about converting data: Moving from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
Here's a list of step-by-step guides to help you get started with QuickBooks Online:
Keep me posted whenever you have concerns about migrating data.
I have already used MoveMyBooks. It does not work properly.
I use multi-currency and stock control. Both things MoveMyBooks fail to support.
I did give it a try with the expectation of having to "fix" a few currency discrepancies but it made a mess of multiple GBP financial accounts aswell. It somehow took accounts with a reconciled balance of ZERO and gave it a balance out of nowhere. Some invoices have been transferred over with completely wrong amounts. VAT is messed up. It simply does not work for me. I am sure for a basic company structure with a few invoices and not much else it will be fine, but for more complex files its useless and Quickbooks really should be offering a better option for customers.
Customer support from MMB is not the best so I am now stuck in a situation where QB is not providing customers with a suitable option for migration so I now need to pay someone to do a manual migration or find another 3rd party company that can work with my data, neither I think is acceptable from Quickbooks.
I use multi-currency and stock control. Both things MoveMyBooks fail to support.
You can buy another 3rd party service to convert data with multicurrency transactions.
Regarding the inventory, QBO's API has been updated and it makes conversion difficult. However, we can bring inventory details like name, code, description, sales account, purchase account, sales price, purchase price, etc. We import all the items as "non-inventory" type in QBO and after the completion of the migration, our clients needs to manually change the type non-Inventory to Inventory and add the quantity on hand manually for each item.
I have been in contact with Quickbooks support and it looks like the billing was stopped a month early for some reason so the license stopped working. Quickbooks has extended my licence to June 30th and I now have access to my file again.
If anyone else has this problem just contact support and it should get sorted without too much trouble.
@Fiat Lux - ASIAI have looked around online and not having much luck finding a 3rd party conversion that works with UK desktop. I did find one in Germany but its USA / Canada only for Desktop.
Inventory I can do a manual export from Desktop and import to online. It doesnt look too complicated. Its just everything else I cant do myself.
Any suggestions I can look at?
Thank you

You have been very vague and still not answered the question....
How can we as users continue to "Read Only" off-line our original data going back to 2009 using our PC when not plugged into the internet... we all need to be able to see and read everything that has occured over the last few years of using this prograqm... we have all spent thouhsands of pounds with Intuit and are not getting any answers.. all I want to do is to ensure (as a Companies House & HMRC requirement) that I can read my accounts data and reporting in full all the way back to the begining when we originally had the disc versions.. we all have personal back-ups, we just need to read it... I understand you wont be supporting us and we will have to problem solve ourselves, but you cannot just remove the ability for us to read our own historical inforation we have saved for accounts perposes over the many years.. HMRC says we have to keep readable records for at leat 7 years.. What your doing is preventing that and surely that is illegal...
Hello Brian0168, the program will stop working but the data export tool will give you access to ALL data stored on the company file for the next 7 years. The data export tool will be available for the next y years so that if there is an audit, that you have that data available to you.
I'm pretty much in the same boat.
I've already had to re-create all transactions since last September (beginning of the FY) with foreign suppliers - not too many but still took a few hours. I intend to file last Quarter's VAT (March-May) using Desktop and then the VAT entries should be good from 1 June.
Much as this is a painful process I don't think QBO is as bad as some people say - I've been using it since 2021 for another business. The interface of QBD is very 1990's and is only available on Windows. QBO is web-based and has a much clearer look. The Bank Feeds are great.
Running the Data Server was so sluggish that we changed to just running on one PC and taking turns to screen share into it (cue regular " have you finished with the PC yet? on WhatsApp).
Having said that, finding no PO Number as a default on Invoices was a shocker, as is the lack of Credit Limits for customers.
I had the same thing on the 2nd - support got it up and working again very quickly to be fair.
Totally agree to leave companies in this situation is totally foolhardy and can stop them trading I really think they have put us in a terrible situation we have used their product for 30 years and I think the support on this is poor it they need to be bought to book
