I'm trying to migrate from Desktop 2021 to Online.
However, I don't see a logon screen (where I presume I should) during the migration process. All I see in the 'Select Destination' area is a message that "You’ll need to update your software to access your Intuit Account here.".
OK, seems easy, just run the update, not quite as simple as it seems.
File Doctor fails with Error #12007.
Searching the forum makes a number of suggestions, Firewall, AV, re-set updates, none of those help, I still get the constant Error #12007 here. Even tried manually downloading the update files, that didn't help. So as a last ditched attempt, I did an 'in place' reinstall. Which then needed the updates, and again, Error #12007.
Running system is a Win11 Pro.
So moved onto another Win 11 Pro system, and performed a fresh installation. Even after updating the new installation, I can't even get the 'Register product' screen to load, and here again I see the Error #12007, against the File Doctor update.
Very frustrating, any help would be appreciated
Dave
I appreciate your sharing detailed information about your issues, DKaye.
QuickBooks update error #12007 can be faced by a user when QuickBooks cannot connect to the internet. This may be due to problems with the browser, antivirus, or firewall.
Since the error continues, let's try restarting your computer and opening your company file in single-user mode. Then, update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release to keep your software up-to-date.
If you're getting the same result, determine whether another application or process is causing the error. You may consider consulting help from a computer or IT expert to check the security software causing the error.
Once everything is set, you can transfer your file to the Online version of QuickBooks. Here's an article for a detailed process: Move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
I'll be around if you need more help working with QuickBooks. Keep safe!
Hi Thanks for your reply.
I find it odd that all the other updates download fine (proven by taking the 'Reset Update' option), yet this one (File Doctor) just doesn't play ball.
I know that QB has issues without IE11 installed and given this is a Win 11 PC with no IE, I'm thinking it could be down to that? Possibly also the root cause of not getting the option to login so I can continue the migration to the online version?
So given that I had tried a fresh install on another Windows 11 PC, and failed to get past the registration ("You'll need to update your software to access your Intuit Account here.").
I thought I would have a go at a fresh install on another PC, this time Windows 10 Pro. This PC also has Internet Explorer 11 installed and is set as default, and no additional antivirus software.
But I still get the same "You'll need to update your software to access your Intuit Account here." This is despite on this PC all QB updates being applied including File Doctor.
Hello there, @DKaye. Thanks for the update on the results when following the steps provided above.
Since you're still getting the same error message, this time, I suggest contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to pull up your account to investigate the root of the problem.
To reach them, here's how:

Do you need to convert data from QB Desktop UK version to QB Online UK version?
Anyone else getting this issue? Help!!!! It wont resolve it self!!
Do you need to convert data from QB Desktop UK to QB Online UK?
You must use the service provided by MMB. But if you need to convert data with multi currency or other requirements (e.g attachments), you can purchase another 3rd party conversion service.

It is from Desktop UK to QB online UK.. Why does the tool not work built in to Quickbooks? Why do we have to pay a third party?
Thanks for all the replies, however, it turns out that the in built tool and promise of 'seamless migration' is a bit of a tall story. The tool doesn't work, and most of the online help in regards to 'how to migrate' are false.
after chatting with QuickBooks support (UK) it transpires that you do have to use a third-party tool provided by Movemybooks. This would usually be a chargeable service, but in this instance (as the QuickBooks tool doesn't work), then QuickBooks pick up the bill.
See below link.
From an experience point of view, then the migration went relatively well other than not all of our products and services migrated successfully. This was due to our products and services being set up as higher level and sub products. Something which the desktop version supports. However, the online version has no support for subproducts and as such ignored all the subproducts, so watch out for this issue when you migrate!
Dave
Have you managed to find a fix for this? I've tried quickbooks on 3 different windows PC's and i'm getting the same error. Would be very much appreciated as i'm very stuck right now aha.
Thanks
exactly this!! why do we need to pay a third party when my company isn't even that big. They have a built-in option to convert it yet it doesn't even work? im shocked.
Hi,
See the above post.
Yes Move My Books does normally cost. But as you moving QuickBooks desktop to online. It's free.
You do not get charged. They bill Quickbook direct.
Extra bit of advice... export all you reports, data, lists, customers EVERYTHING to text reports, excel, CSV, whatever works for you. Before your desktop QB licence expires.
The Move My Books migration is good, but I did need ti re access my desktop QB for some of my products. I used second level products in my desktop, but that isn't supported in the online version so they didn't get exported.
Other than that, quite a smoth transition.
Dave
Thanks for the quick response, how long did it take them to complete it?
Do you know their operating hours etc?
Hi,
It's all online and automated.
I did it during working hours, but didn't see anything which suggested it couldn't happen outside working hours.
From memory, you register with them. Then configure your migration, Inc. Uploading a backup of your data files, and giving your online QB details. Hit the 'go' button and let it do its thing.
You can check on the migration process as it happens.
Probably from start to end it took a couple of hours, but guess that depends on the amount of data etc. to migrate.
Dave
Hmm interesting.
Didn't realise it was an automated process. I got halfway through the process but realised i can't actually activate my quickbooks license because im getting the same error "intuit needs to be udpated first" which i obviously can't do due to 12007. This is all a bit shambolic considering how large of a company this is.
got any tips on what i could try?
Hi,
If you get hold of the UK Quickbooks Support (make sure it is the UK one, and explain the situation. They will register the software via phone for you.
I.e they will give you a registration key to type in and get you up and running.
Dave
Hi there, @usernameonetwothree. Let me chime into your conversation.
It seems you posted a relevant question that my colleague, @Ethel_A answered. Please see this link for more details: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-uk/other-questions/re-error-12007-for-file-doctor/01/...
Feel free to reply to this post or post again in the Community if you have additional questions about managing your account. Take care, and have a good day ahead.
Has anyone actually got the quickbooks desktop conversion working? I have 10+ years worth of data to transfer and movemybooks are asking for £90+ a year to convert the data which is ridiculous. Why would the customer have to pay if quickbooks are incable of converting this data themselves?
I believe this issue is due to the fact that internet explorer doesn't exist on windows 10+ machines? Has anyone tried to spin up a VM with an old version of windows e.g. 7 and try the conversion from there?
Thanks
Hi,
Totaly agree how ridiculous this is, bit it seems the 'bean counters' have got their way. It's online or 'the proverbial highway'.
In regards to your suggestion of using a Win 7 vm, sadly I would suggest that you don't waste your time. I tried, no joy.
It seems to me that they simply never finished the development, pulling the plug early in favour of using an outsourcing option.
Best advice, migrate as much as you can for free. Then dump the rest to paper using the reports area, and destroy a few trees in the process.
Dave
ended up having to pay £350 to get a few extra years to be imported. ridiculous. will find another solution to invoicing after we settle i think.
