How do you change width of description column on an invoice?

Hello sales27,

Welcome to the Community - thank you for your question!

You can do this by going to the cog wheel in the top right hand corner, and then custom form styles. Once on there, edit the invoice template you are using and select 'content'. Select the middle section of the invoice and click 'edit labels and widths' - here you will be able to adjust the widths of each column.

Thanks,

Talia

How do you change width of description column on an invoice?

Hi - this feature does not work.  Please fix it.  I have adjusted the column width multiple times and no changes are taking affect when I create a new invoice.  I am unable to view the Product/Service, it makes it very difficult to work with the platform.

How do you change width of description column on an invoice?

Hi there, @cwyf.

Welcome to the Community space. I'm here to assist you in adjusting the width of description column on an invoice in QuickBooks Online. However, I'd like to clarify if you want to adjust the column through the invoice creation page or the printed form.

If you mean by adjusting the columns through the invoice creation page, you can click and drag the column width to adjust it. This way, you'll be able to see the Product/Service column.

Here's how:

  1. While on the invoice creation window, hover your cursor to the line between PRODUCT/SERVICE and DESCRIPTION.
  2. Your cursor will change to adjust mode. Click and drag it to scale the width.

If you want to adjust the columns through the printed form, you can follow the steps provided by @TaliaI. Additionally, there are limits to adjusting columns which causes a column to have a fixed width. This is due to the compact size of the table full of columns already. To fix this, you'll need to hide a column so you don't need to freely adjust the other columns.

If the problem persists after hiding a column, I recommend troubleshooting your browser as this could also contribute to malfunctioning features to a website. Let's start with accessing QuickBooks Online using incognito mode or a private window.

Here are the shortcut keys to go private mode in a browser:

For Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge / Opera:
  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mac: Command ⌘ + Shift + N
For Firefox:
  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Mac: Command ⌘ + Shift + P
For Safari:
  • Shift + Command ⌘ + N

If this works, you can proceed to clear your browser's cache and cookies to clear temporary files running in your browser that have caused the malfunctions. Otherwise, you can also use other supported browsers to ensure it runs QBO efficiently.

Additionally, you can also consider customizing your invoice  in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to leave a reply if you have additional concerns besides adjusting width of a column on an invoice in QuickBooks Online. I'm here to assist you anytime.
