I see I can adjust stock quantity with quickbooks online, but can I adjust stock value too like I can on Desktop?
Hello RAY15, Thanks for posting on the Community page, if you have a look at this link it will help you with this and how to do it.
Why is it so complicated to do??
On desktop that is such a simple task.
What about if you want to write down the value of some existing stock?
Hi RAY15, there's currently no feature for this QuickBooks Online, however, you can run the Stock Valuation Summary/Stock Valuation Detail reports to view the value of an item at any one time. We welcome you to share any feedback that you may have for this by clicking the Cog > Feedback in your Quickbooks. :)
Can this be added as a feature?
Its a standard accounting procedure to be able to write stock down in value.
We recommend requesting this using the in-product feedback tool - this way, your submission will be sent directly to our developers who regularly review and implement changes.
I don't currently have the online version so how can I do that? LOL
I have Desktop which does it already but you want us to migrate to online which doesn't?
Can you ask?
Hello RAY15, that’s no problem at all we will pass this feedback on for you on your behalf.
Can you get me an answer as to when this will be actioned/live on quickbooks online?
Hi RAY15, we have forwarded your feedback to our development team for consideration; please note that this does not guarantee that the feature will be implemented.
How can we guarantee it will be implemented? Its already on Desktop, did someone forget to add it to online???
Hi RAY15, there is no way to guarantee this, we are only able to submit product enhancement requests via feedback.
Can I get some feedback from them on this?
Hi RAY15, our developers are an offline team and do not respond to individual feedback requests - you can however keep up to date with our latest product developments here. :woman_technologist:
How do you expect companies to migrate to 'online' if it doesn't have the features of desktop?
Its a simple request, please escalate within your organisation.
Hi RAY15, there are certain feature differences between the products as they are not designed to be a replication - we'd recommend taking out a trial of QuickBooks Online if you haven't already before migrating your account data to check that this is the right fit for you.
Any update on this?
Hi RAY15, thanks for re-visiting this thread. We haven't had an update to stock value adjustments in QuickBooks Online. We encourage users to leave feedback for this in-product (via the Cog > Feedback) as changes are driven based on demand.
Feedback via the 'cog' are you serious?
Why aren't you interested in improving the product for users in a more professional way?
This thread shows just how dismal a product QB online is, and just how useless 'support' is. Every year I make adjustments to stock values, and this year I cannot do it; a basic accounting function.
We were forced to migrate to QB Online, although I wish we had moved to Sage, after 20 years of using QB desktop, and I loathe the QB Online product. Unless you are selling lemonade from a stall in a Saturday market, and nothing more complex, then QB Online is not fit for purpose.
Every day I find another function it can't perform, or another report that is badly designed. Even the templates for POs, quotes and invoice look like something from the 1990s, and can't be changed to anything better.
If you change from QB desktop virtually all your previous data will be lost, and you will lose time and money.
If you change from QB desktop virtually all your previous data will be lost, and you will lose time and money.
You can use the trial version of QB Desktop to access your historical data for good.
Yes there are ways of retaining your old data, although Intuit doesn't want you to use them. If you do have that, you'll be using it all the time, as there is so much that you cannot transfer across to the QBO product, such as your quotes, your POs, and all your memorised transactions. Moving our thousands of stock items across was a nightmare, and now there's no history, unless I go back to the Desktop product.
Is Intuit going to add this basic feature to their lousy QBO product? No, I guess not, so my year end will be much more difficult, and probably inaccurate. Here in the UK we were forced in to moving to QBO, or to a completely different product.
I would advise anyone using QB Desktop not to move to QBO.
I am getting off this QBO software at the soonest opportunity, there is no support, no development and it's not fit for purpose.
Hi Egbert Nosh Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Community. We sincerely appreciate that a direct function to be able to adjust stock quantity, rather than creating an adjusting journal, is important to some businesses therefore we've again submitted your feedback to our developers, and hopefully it maybe something that they can introduce in the future. We've provided a link if you'd too would like to leave feedback directly to our developers: https://feedback.qbo.intuit.com/
