Thanks for posting your concern today. I'll provide some insight and steps on how you can add a discount per line item in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Yes, you can apply a discount with fixed prices to your estimates or invoices. However, please note that you can only use this method for whole amounts, not percentages. To achieve this, you can add it as a line item to your sales forms that include a description of what the discount is for.
Let's start by creating a discount item:
- Go to Settings ⚙ and then Products and Services.
- Click the New button, then select Non-stock or Service for the type.
- Enter the name “Discount” in the Name field. If you want to create multiple discount items, give each discount a unique name so they're easy to tell apart.
- In the Sales price/rate section, enter the discount as a negative amount. Keep in mind that this is an amount and not a percentage.
- From the Income account ▼dropdown menu, choose the Discounts given account that QuickBooks created when you turned on the discount setting.
- Select an appropriate tax rate so that the discount is nontaxable.
- Once done, select Save and close.
After that, you can now proceed to add the discount item to your sales form. Here's how:
- Click the + New button, then select Invoice, Estimate, or Sales receipt.
- Add your products or services in the Product/Service column.
- Then, add the discount item you just created in the Product/Service column. You can adjust the discount if you need to, just make sure it's a negative amount.
- Fill out the necessary details of the form.
- Select Save and send or Save and close when you're ready.

I understand you need to include the discount per line item within the estimate, @andrewmarsh. I can see the relevance and convenience of having this feature in QuickBooks Online. With that, I'll share the steps to submit feedback.
You have the option to apply a fixed-amount discount to your estimates or invoices, but it's important to remember that this method only allows for whole amounts, not percentages. To do this, you can include the discount as a separate line item on your sales forms, describing what the discount is for.
Since you are unable to access the link provided by my colleague above, you raise your concern or send a request to our product developer within QuickBooks Online. This way, they'll see your suggestion and consider adding it to the next program update.
Follow the steps below:
1. You can go to the Gear icon.
2. Under the Profile column, press the Feedback button.
3. Write your product suggestion, then click Next.
