I have received an invoice from a supplier for VAT only as they forgot to charge it originally. How do I enter this ?

I've got the steps so you can enter a VAT-only bill in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Wayne. I'm delighted to walk through every procedure.

To handle this accordingly, we can utilize the Category details section of the Bill page to generate a bill for the VAT charge. Then, make it Exclusive of Tax from the Amounts are field.

After that, select 20.0% S and Exempt (0%) on the first and second line's VAT columns. Subsequently, input an amount for both lines. One should be positive, and the other should be negative to offset the value.

Following that, enter the VAT amount under the Subtotal field. Please refer to these steps for complete guidance:

  1. Go to the + New menu and select Bill.
  2. Select the Supplier and input other necessary information.
  3. Select Exclusive of Tax from the Amounts are dropdown. After that, proceed to the Category details section.

  4. Leave the Category column emptied, then proceed to the Amount column and input £0.01. Then, pick 20.0% S on the VAT column.
  5. Choose Exempt (0%) for the second line's VAT and enter -£0.01 as its Amount.

  6. Navigate to the Subtotal portion and enter the total VAT charge amount.

  7. Once done, click Save or Save and close.

I've also included these resources, which will be handy in calculating and submitting VAT to HMRC and reviewing the complete list of VAT codes:
