Authorised wrong GOV.UK account when re-activating Making Tax Digital (for VAT)

I accidentally logged in to the wrong GOV.UK account when re-authorising MTD on my Quickbooks VAT management section - now it just consistently tells me it can't connect and provides me no way with re-authorising.

Why do I constantly feel that Quickbooks is in "beta" when it's actually decades old?

Authorised wrong GOV.UK account when re-activating Making Tax Digital (for VAT)

Hello there, John. I've got the steps to disconnect and reconnect your MTD account with QuickBooks Online (QBO).

For this, you'll have to turn off MTD. You can follow the steps I'll outline below:

Here's how to disconnect:

  1. Go to Taxes.
  2. .On the upper right, Click Edit VAT.
  3. Choose Edit settings, scroll down then click toggle to turn off MTD.

After that, follow these steps to fully disconnect the account:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Account and settings.
  2. Click Advanced then choose Making Tax Digital.
  3. Hit Learn how to disconnect and follow the in-product messaging to complete the disconnection.

Once successfully disconnected, you can go to Taxes to turn on the connection again and will be redirected to enter your government gateway details.

In addition, here's a guide to assist you in submitting your VAT return: Submit a VAT return to HMRC using MTD in QBO

Let me know if you have any other concerns besides log-in issues in QBO. The Community is here to assist you 24/7.
