Hi there, mrphyc786,

QuickBooks will help automate tax tracking when you collect or pay value-added tax.

That being said, there are some things you need to check to keep accurate records of the tax you collect and pay. Below are the possible reasons why your Prepare VAT return page is blank:

  • The VAT reporting method is incorrect
  • Dates on the VAT return are incorrect for the period.
  • Transactions you have created aren't allocated into the correct box.

To fix this, let's run the following reports to ensure those figures are correct:

You can also use SmartScan to highlight duplicate transactions and other unusual items. this is a new and unique smart automation giving accuracy, and time back to QuickBooks customers filing VAT.

If you need to make corrections to your sales or purchase VAT, please refer to this link: Adjust your VAT liability. This article will guide you through adjusting returns to correct errors in the past returns.

After that, you can then proceed to submit your returns in QuickBooks Online. Let me guide you through on how to accomplish this:

  1. Select Taxes from the left navigation menu.
  2. Click VAT at the top.
    VAT.PNG
  3. Select Submit return, then check the dates and accounting period.
  4.  Click Submit to HMRC whenever you're ready to file it.
  5. Enter your Government Gateway User ID and Password, then click Yes, I want to proceed.
  6. QuickBooks will then connect to HMRC to submit your VAT return.
  7. When your submission is successful, the status will change from Pending with HMRC to Approved by HMRC.

I've also added this article: Submit a VAT return in QuickBooks for additional information with the steps above. It provides instructions before submitting your returns.

Keep me posted if you have follow-up questions and I'll get back to you.
