VAT reverse charge

Hi,

Is there a way to display the VAT amount on an invoice when applying the VAT reverse charge to line items?

It would be good to see the amount of VAT companies I work for have to pay even though it isn't included in the total that they will pay me.

Thanks in advance

VAT reverse charge

Hi @JackMcGilvary

Short answer is no - there was lots of discussion (complaints) about this last year when CIS RC was brought in.  Inuit took on board the feedback & the fact that it's still not possible tells you all you probably need to know about the feedback button in QBO Smiley Frustrated.

It isn't actually a requirement - HMRC guidance (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/vat-reverse-charge-technical-guide#invoices) says the amount or the rate should be shown along with a message that the customer is required to account for the VAT.

Hope this helps.

There's definitely a way to do that, JackMcGilvary.

You can customize your invoices to include the reverse charge VAT rate and amount. Here's how to do it:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Custom form styles.
  3. Locate your invoice template, then click Edit.
  4. Go to the Content tab, then click the table of the invoice.
  5. Tick the VAT checkbox, then click the footer of the invoice.
  6. Tick the VAT summary checkbox, the hit Done.

Keep me posted if you need more help in managing your invoices in QuickBooks Online. Have nice day!

Hi KlentB,

Thanks for your reply.

I tried the method you suggest but it still doesn't show. The VAT total still shows as £0 and the table that shows when creating the invoice template doesn't show at all when sending the PDF to the customer

Thanks

Hi JackMcGilvary,

Thank you for the screenshot. The RC CIS code is not supported in the Flat Rate Scheme in QuickBooks Online. If you're not on that scheme, please contact our dedicated QuickBooks Support for the UK so they can check this further for you.

  1. Click on Help and click the Search tab.
  2. Click Contact Us at the bottom.
  3. Enter a sentence to describe your concern and click Continue.
  4. Choose Start a chat or Get a callback.

Hi @paul72,

Thanks very much for this, I thought unfortunately this was the case.

Heres hoping they add it in because it would be very helpful.

Thanks Jack
